Decatur community,
What a week! I am going to keep my intro. short and sweet, because there is just too much that went on this past week.
Please remember that there are tons of pictures that have been uploaded to our Facebook page just a quick click away above.
SHOUTOUTS
Zodrow Places 3rd and Juenemann 4th at State Wrestling
Josh finished the year in 4th place, and it was always a pleasure to watch him wrestle. Josh had a huge following at the State tournament that traveled from all over the state to see him. An amazing and unforgettable finish to a career that won't soon be forgotten.
Lukas took third, losing only to the eventual champion in the semis. Lukas was the true definition of a tactical wrestler this year, and his performance bodes well for his future. With one more year left, the junior will be a force to be reckoned with next year.
Mathews and Williby Perform at State KMEA
The two have been seen all throughout their DCHS' careers performing as members of the choir, members of the Singers, and in a variety of performances.
Great job, ladies!
Student Section Brings It
It was the loudest and most involved the students have been all year, and they lived up to the old statement, "Saved the best for last."
Gage Williby Named Fan of the Game
Shoutout also goes to the Booster Club. The Booster Club provided the Red Devils' flag to the Fan of the Game, chosen by the cheerleaders.
JH Cheerleaders Perform Pep Rally
Girls and Boys Win NWKL League Wrestling Titles
The following students all won their division and were named League Champions:
90 – Skylar Hawkins
125 - 138 - Shayla Kisner
125 – Kaden Sowers
132 – Gage Williby
138 – Gus Bryan
152 – Josiah Pattangall
160-175 – Rustin Bailey
Senior Night
Senior Nights are always emotional and the written language that each shared with the crowd was once again stirring.
Thank you to Gabbie Vontz, Avery Witt, Breyanna Gehring, Gavin Seller, Bryant Addleman, Teague Morford, Olivia Williby and Savannah Morris.
It's bittersweet in so many ways. I only wish that I was going to get to spend more time with them over the years.
FFA Week a Success
Tuesday saw the popular "Drive Your Tractor to School Day."
4 students braved the elements to make the trip in/on their tractor, one even breaking down on the way.
The Board Gets Involved
In my eyes, that is a farm truck if there ever was one.
Pie in a Teacher's Face Fundraiser Popular
After the teachers, the officers had their turn. Here you see some of the aftereffects.
Not sure Coach Gehring was so excited about the location of the event, but I probably ought to throw out a shoutout to maintenance worker Jack Farr who got on the Zamboni machine and tried to get it all cleaned up before practice.
Art Students Travel to Hays
Shoutout to also to Mr. Jason Ketterl who drove the bus and participated as well.
Sowers Makes History
Girls Heading to Quinter for Sub-State Fresh off of Western KS Team of the Week Nod
The Lady Devils are on a roll right now, winning 4 in a row and 8 of their last 9. When I watch these girls play, there are several things that are readily apparent.
1. These girls have a deep bench. There are several girls that contribute, a huge advantage that allows for them to be aggressive for the duration of the game.
2. They are well rounded. This team does not fit into the too big, too slow, too small, too young, category. They are a complete team, category-less.
3. They never give up. This team won't cave just because they get into a rut. They play with the confidence that they can get back in it.
4. They are well coached. They know their fundamentals and their offense, and Coach Gehring does a tremendous job of getting the best out of each of them.
I could put more, but why not read this article instead? Others have taken notice as well. This article came out just last week, prior to our Senior Night victory over Logan and the Sub-State win over Victoria.
Lady Devils Named Western KS Team of the Week
Now it's on to Quinter to take on St. Francis in the Sub-State Semifinals. We have redeemed two losses this year, and now we get the opportunity to make it 9 of 10 and do it again.
Let's go, Lady Devils!
Things You Should Know
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Spring Conferences are this week. Please look through this information.
1. The timeframe is listed below:
Monday, February 27: 4:00-8:00 PM (Student Led Conferences)
Tuesday, February 28: 4:00-7:00 PM
2. Students have been working for the past several weeks on a presentation to present to parents during conferences. There will be time to move around and talk with teachers after they have presented. Please note that there will be a handful of teachers that will not be in attendance on a specific night. Teachers should be communicating with their mentees and parents if they won't be in attendance. An example would be that Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Persinger will be in Colby setting up for the JH NWKL Music Festival.
3. Grades will be up to date by Monday, February 27th. You should be able to look online through PowerSchool to check your student's progress before conferences.
4. Please reach out to your teachers if you have concerns about your child, and feel free to reach out to myself if you need any clarification about conferences. I will be there and would be more than willing to have a conference as well.
Early Release Wednesday
This Wednesday, March 1st, students will be released from DCHS at 2:00.
NWKL JH Music Festival
The whole JH will end up in Colby on Wednesday, some leaving very early and others leaving later in the day. Mr. Persinger and Mrs. Johnson have communicated very well with students and parents.
Parents, please remember that Wednesday is a half day and that school will be over before many students will return home. Please plan for transportation for your students.
