The St. Anselm School Scope
Striving Together for Academic Greatness and Spirituality
From the Principal's Desk
February 6, 2025
Good Afternoon St. Anselm Families,
I hope your week is going well. Here are some reminders from my desk.
Parking Lot Safety
Things are getting dicey in the parking lot again. Parents and grandparents are speeding, not paying attention, parking in the spots that are marked "do not park during school hours," and not paying attend when students are crossing at the crosswalk.
To be frank- speeding, cutting off other drivers, and not paying attention while driving at a school is selfish and very dangerous. Everyone needs to follow the rules. No one should be in so much of a rush as to put other people, especially children, at risk.
A few times per year, I feel that everyone needs to be reminded that safety is our first priority. Please drive with caution, drive slowly, and do not jeopardize the safety of other people because you are in a hurry. If someone other than you is picking up your student, please remind them to drive safely. Thank you!
Attendance
If your student is going to be absent, please call the office or email Mrs. Delaney to let us know. It is very helpful to email the teacher, too. By law, we have to report all absences to the state each week.
Breakfast/Lunch
March Breakfast and Lunch forms are due to the office tomorrow, with payment! The forms are green.
Candy Grams
Grams will be sold at lunches tomorrow for $0.25 per gram. Students can purchase to give to other students, staff, and friends.
Kids' Heart Challenge
Although our CSW gym classes have passed, the Kids' Heart Challenge hasn't ended! Donors can still donate online! We're almost at our goal! Please keep sharing so we can reach our goal of $13,000.00! Thank you for all of your support this year! See below for additional information.
Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Dances
Please look below for the dates of our upcoming dances! Mark your calendars! Thank you, Mrs. Sbeiti, for organizing these fun events! Sign up Genius links will go out soon for parents to volunteer!
Registration for the 25-26 School Year, and Summer Program Registration
We are continuing to collect registrations for the upcoming school year. Packets can be sent in with the blue card, blue form, and $200.00 registration fee!
Remember to spread the "good news" about St. Anselm! If you refer a family, and they register and attend St. Anselm, you receive a $300.00 tuition credit!
We are planning to host a summer program here at St. Anselm. It is $200.00 per week, and the program would run from June 9-26 (Monday-Thursday, No Fridays) from 8:15 AM-2:15 PM. The registration form came home last week. Registration for the summer program is due by March 10.
Inclement Weather
Remember that in the case of additional inclement weather, I will send an email and text with details of a snow/poor weather day. "St. Anselm" will also be featured on the news stations, and information will be posted on social media, too.
TGIF! Have a great night- and enjoy your long, SuperBowl weekend!
Mrs. K
Kids Heart Challenge- Thank you!
Hello St. Anselm Families.
Although our Kids Heart Challenge Activity days are over, we are currently at 98% of our monetary goal! Just $311 shy of it. Thank you to all who took the time to set up your students' KHC page and have made or received donations on their behalf. Our goals remain the same, to always have 100% student participation, to have all students complete Finn's Mission and for students and families to learn Hands-Only CPR.
The fun continues as February is Heart Health Month and there is still time to take action and get in on some special prize drawings. As a reminder, our online KHC website will close on Feb. 12. If your child would like to complete Finn's Mission they are able to do so until February 12. We also will have a "Heart Hunt" activity that will be going on for the rest of the month and that is to "Find the PE Heart" somewhere in the school. If a student finds the "PE Heart", they should bring it to the office and they will be able to pick a prize from the Heart Health Bin!
I would also like to take this time to say a special "Thank You" to Mrs. Delaney for helping out with the Duck Distribution Instant prizes, to Mrs. Kraetke for promoting the KHC through the many social media post and reminder emails, and to Mrs. Sbeiti for lending a helping hand with the 2-day event. I could not have done it without this great team to back me up!
Finally, attached to this article is a "Family Wellness Week" Idea Sheet. Perhaps you can set aside some time as a family and enjoy these activities. Again, thank you to everyone who supported the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge this school year!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Mrs. Marcia Santostasi

Please review the CYO Sports Program Guidelines agreed upon at the beginning of the season:
My child will attend regular practices or I will give notice to the coach regarding any necessary absences via phone call, text, email, or note to the main office. Please do not ask another athlete to relay a verbal message. If a student is absent from school on the day of a scheduled practice or game, then that student CANNOT participate in the scheduled practice or game. All exceptions will be reviewed by the school principal and athletic director to make a final decision.
If a student/athlete is absent the Friday before a weekend game they will not be able to play on that Saturday.
Any student/athlete who fails to attend regular practices may be sidelined from competition at the discretion of the coach, athletic director, and principal.
Remember that good sports are winners.

The Michigan Catholic Conference now offers student insurance!
Student Accident Insurance
Michigan Catholic Conference is now offering additional accidental injury coverage available through Student Assurance Services, Inc. for students enrolled in Catholic schools that participate in MCC’s Protected Loss Fund Program. The coverage is available for students in preschool through 12th grade.
Coverage is available 24/7 for around $83 per student. Schools already provide coverage
during school and while participating in athletic events, but accidental injury insurance would extend coverage after school and during breaks, as well.
While most everyone has medical insurance, student accidental injury coverage would cover select out-of-pocket expenses not covered by your current plan, including deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance.
If you have any questions about this additional insurance available for purchase, give the MCC Risk Management department a call at 517-372-9310 or email risk@micatholic.org.
St. Anselm Catholic Parish Mass Times
Attendance at weekend mass is important! All Catholic families should find the time to attend mass on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. By attending mass, you are solidifying the importance of our faith in our young people. We attend mass as a school community. Please attend mass as a family, too.
Our mass times are as follows:
Saturdays at 4:30 PM
Sundays at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM
Remember to bring your envelope to mass every week! If you forget to turn it in at mass, you can send it with your student and your student's homeroom teacher will send the envelope to the office.

Why would a family want or need to apply for benefits?
Families can apply using the Family Portal by simply clicking "benefits." Based on income and other small factors, families can be given free or reduced lunches which proves to be helpful in many ways!
This application is simple and does not require any additional forms to be uploaded.
In addition, our school is given Federal Funding based on our students who receive free and reduced lunch. The more students who qualify, the better. Because of federal funding, we are able to provide after-school tutoring, in school tutoring, additional, non-core classes and activities, free field trips, books and supplies, technology, and more.
The application is simple and private! Please consider filling it out today! The link is below.
