Student School Reports
Student reports have gone home on Tuesday 27th June. This will give an indication of student progress and achievement across the curriculum at mid-year. The teachers have spent significant time preparing these reports to communicate student learning, and look forward to discussing your child’s learning at the parent conferences at the beginning of next term. Please put aside the following dates aside. Tuesday 25th July 3:30 to 6pm. Thursday 27th 1:15 to 7:00pm. Keep an eye out for online booking information.
Reports have gone out earlier in the week to allow parents to contact teachers, if they have significant concerns needing attention before the teacher conference dates.
Talent Show
It was a pleasure to see, hear and feel the school motto of ‘Make it Happen!’ during the recent student council led talent show. We had many courageous students facing their fears and performing in front of first the judges, then a large audience of paying students if they made the final. What struck me, and I’m sure the dad in the audience, was the support of high fives and encouraging comments given by their fellow contestants as they walked off the stage. Faces with nervous expressions turned into smiles. I talked with a few students before they performed who had butterflies in their tummies. One student told me they had not sung in front of others before, but they were going to face their fears.
Well done to all those who entered the talent show and showed courage and pride in themselves. Thank you to the student council for organising the auditions, registrations, notices and the crew of judges. I think some of the council could have performed in the auditions based on their enjoyment of the microphone and sound tracks during setup. It was great to see children having fun.
All of the gold coin audience fees went towards the prizes for the final.
1st Holly-Grace Duffy R6 on the drums - $50
2nd Spencer Foot R14 comedy/jokes - $40
3rd Sofia Sole R2 dancing - $14

Student Safety and Supervision
The board of trustees, discussed and approved an addition to our school hours’ information on our website. This decision and conversation came from a growing number of students being dropped at school early in the morning and accessing our classrooms, playground and grounds. At this time of day staff do not actively supervise these areas, as they are preparing for the days learning. Both student safety and teacher productivity have been factors in these changes. This will have little impact on our early morning students.
The following will now be added to the school website
School Hours
8.50am School opens
10.25am - 10.50am Morning Tea
12:25pm - 1.15pm Lunch Break
2.50pm School closes
Please endeavour to have your child at school on time. Teachers are on playground and sickbay duty during playtime and lunchtime. Please note there is no formal supervision of children outside of the 8.10 am - 3.05 pm time frame, therefore it is very important that children are dropped off and picked up at times as close as possible to the bell time. Students who arrive at school in the mornings prior to 8:10, remain the responsibility of the parent; A bell will ring at 8:10 to signal access to classrooms, prior to this bell all students are to remain on the R13&14 deck or the basketball courts. During school hours’ children are not permitted to leave the school grounds unless accompanied by a parent. If children play on the Playground before or after school, they must be supervised by their parent.
Matariki Festival
Thank you for supporting the school community event last night. I hope you enjoyed sharing in your child’s classroom topic learning, meeting some of their classmate’s families and talking with the staff. Ka pai to the Y5/6 teaching team, student vegetable peelers and extended whanau whom supported the hangi EOTC fundraiser, as well as the Y5 to Y8 parents who provided koha of either food or money to buy food.
I had many positive comments from parents about the classroom learning, the quality of the kai and the community feel of the evening. Staff left on a real high.
Thanks again for a great community evening.
