During this session, school teams presented their efforts for school improvement, shared data on student learning benchmarks and progress monitoring, and outlined the goals and activities aimed at achieving those goals, all aligned with the district’s Outrageous Outcomes.
Board members actively participated by engaging in discussions, asking questions, and exploring strategies to support our schools in reaching their objectives.
Superintendent’s Student Action Council April & May Update
PSD Student Board Representatives Kimberly Joya Manzanarez and Samantha Quiroga presented the outcomes of the Student Action Council meetings held in April and May 2024.
In April, students discussed the concept of "Belonging Through a Culture of Dignity" and brainstormed actions to continue, stop, and start to enhance the sense of belonging in their schools. In May, students reviewed three of the new high school boundary scenarios, providing pros and cons for each.
During the May meeting, the Student Board Representatives and the Student Action Council celebrated the end of the year with treats from KONA Ice and received certificates of appreciation.
High School Boundary Process: Request for Action
Jake Stueckle, Director of Secondary Instructional Systems, presented the three boundary scenarios (A, D, and F) and explained how they align with the guiding principles and district program and funding considerations. He also addressed board questions about each boundary scenario's impact on the Dual Language and Career and Technical Education programs as well as the possible impacts on transportation.
The next steps include district staff requesting action from the Board during the regularly scheduled meeting on June 11th.
Superintendent Listening Tour 2023-2024 - Building a Culture of WE; to Better Support YOU
Michelle Whitney, PSD’s Superintendent, presented a report on the 2023-2024 Superintendent Listening Tour, which aimed to center the voices of district staff. This initiative provided an opportunity for staff to share insights and discuss the district's strengths and areas for improvement.
Over seven months, Mrs. Whitney visited all schools and departments, asking staff to provide feedback via the ThoughtExchange platform on the following questions:
What are the key strengths of our district, and how do they contribute to our overall success?
What is an area of weakness in our district, and why does it need to be addressed?
How can I, as your Superintendent, better support you and your colleagues in your daily work?
Staff then rated the feedback, helping to identify common themes.
The next steps include analyzing the data, planning and launching an advisory team to the Superintendent, and creating a communication plan to share the results of the Listening Tour and outline the subsequent actions.
