Oakland County Emergency Management
Oakland County Emergency Management is observing Severe Weather Awareness Week (SWAW) March 16-22 with many opportunities to educate citizens about severe weather hazards.
We encourage residents of Oakland County to check the Emergency Management web page and social media all week for valuable information about severe weather threats, developing a family plan of action, tornadoes, downed power lines, floods, fires and more.
As part of Oakland County’s recognition week, there will also be a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 19 at 1 p.m. The National Weather Service will issue a practice tornado warning and broadcast a test message on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Radio. The practice warning can be heard on NOAA Weather Radios, which can be bought commercially, or heard through the NOAA Weather Radio app.
Every time the siren system is activated (test or real incident), an OakAlert message is sent to subscribers. OakAlert is a self-registering alert system which emails participants about critical incidents in Oakland County. The message on March 19th will communicate information about the statewide test. To sign up, text "OakAlert" to 99411.
For more resources on how you can prepare your home, school or business for severe weather emergencies and other disasters, or to sign up for OakAlert, visit:

WHEN: THURSDAY, APRIL 3
TIME: 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.
SUBJECT: Your student is invited – please RSVP
Dear Families,
We’re going to Italy in Summer 2026, and you’re invited!
We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://bit.ly/3FlRVDb
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
- How this opportunity will benefit your student
- What we’ll see and do on our trip
- Everything that’s included in this experience
- How your child can earn academic credit
- How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
- How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
