Lafayette ES Family Newsletter
January 21, 2025
A Note from Principal Prall
Dear Lafayette Families,
I hope you and your family remain safe in the cold temperatures and slick conditions. Thank you for returning to school after the long weekend! Our Year-to-Date chronic absenteeism remains slightly improved from last year's, which is great. We have several events coming up at Lafayette and want to make sure families are aware of the different opportunities to be in community with one another!
Tomorrow: How We Talk to Our Kids About the Inauguration
Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8:00 AM, the Menal Health Team is hosting a space for parents and guardians titled How We Talk to Our Kids About the Inauguration. Join in discussion on how we can best support our children in processing the topics surrounding this significant moment in our nation’s history. You can also learn more about how teachers and the school team are equipped to support students.
School Spelling Bee on January 23
On January 23, the school spelling bee will take place! There are two competitors from each homeroom in grades 3-5. We are excited that all upper school students will be able to watch the Bee, and the parents of competitors are invited to watch as well. Those invitations were shared individually. We look forward to sharing the results!
Community Meeting on January 31
We invite you to our monthly Community Meeting on January 31. This is a great opportunity to stay connected, celebrate our students, and learn about how Black History Month will be celebrated in February, and Black History will be taught all year round. The Advanced Band and 2nd grade choir will each be featured at their respective grade level's community meeting. Times and details are shared below.
Band and Choir Concert - February 13 at 6:00 PM
Save the date! Our winter Band and Choir Concert will be held on February 13 at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. The students have been working hard, and we are excited for you to see their talents on display.
As referenced previously, we continue to partner with DGS on ensuring our outdoor play equipment and grounds. Please note that there may be some construction on the asphalt portion of the playground over the next few weekends. We also encourage families to check the lost and found, as well as the nearby community play spaces your children utilize outside of school hours, for missing hats, gloves, and scarves.
In partnership,
Katie Prall, Principal
Lafayette Elementary School
