Coding with Miss Bielawski
This week, our first and second grade classes were working with robots and coding. They learned about algorithms, looping, and sequencing. They then had to code the robot to complete a task of getting from one end of a maze to the other. They had so much fun!
Iditarod: The Last Great Race on Earth – A Learning Adventure in Second Grade!
Have you heard of the Iditarod? The students in Mrs. Kiser’s second-grade class sure have, and they are loving every moment of the race action! This legendary dog sled race across Alaska has provided incredible cross-curricular learning experiences, engaging students in reading, math, science, geography, and even hands-on STEM activities.
Through nonfiction reading, students have explored life in Alaska, race strategies, Iditarod history, and expert dog care. They’ve been making inferences, drawing real-life connections, and deepening their comprehension skills—all while being captivated by the fascinating world of sled dog racing.
In math, students tackled the costs of preparing for the race by calculating the price of mandatory equipment for a rookie musher. The final total was quite a shock! Real-time race statistics have also given students an opportunity to apply their knowledge of reading charts and graphs in a meaningful way.
Geography lessons have come to life as students examine maps of the Iditarod trail, Alaska, and North America. Science connections have been just as exciting, with students testing water cohesion, studying the Aurora Borealis, and even engineering their own miniature LEGO sleds.
The excitement doesn’t stop there! The class has been enthusiastically following their chosen musher, (Ohio native) Matthew Failor, as he faces challenges along the trail. They cheer him on every step of the way, gaining a deeper understanding of perseverance and teamwork.
To top it all off, Mrs. Kiser’s class is participating in the official Iditarod Postcard Exchange with 49 other classrooms across the United States. Through this exchange, students have learned about different state symbols and compared them to those of our beloved Ohio, making meaningful connections with peers across the country.
The Iditarod has truly brought learning to life in our classroom, making every subject more engaging and interactive. We can’t wait to see where the adventure takes us next!
Celebrating Youth Art Month at Midview Schools!
March is Youth Art Month, a time to celebrate the creativity, imagination, and talent of our students! We are excited to showcase the incredible artwork created by our students in the Midview Art Department. This month, let’s recognize the hard work and dedication our young artists have put into their craft!
Throughout Youth Art Month and all year long, you can explore your child's artwork online through Artsonia, the largest student art gallery in the world! Artsonia offers a unique opportunity for parents and families to view and purchase keepsakes featuring their child's art, such as mugs, t-shirts, and more. All proceeds from these purchases directly support the Midview Art Department, helping us continue to provide enriching art experiences for our students.

What excites me most about my job: I love that every minute of everyday is different! I get to see kids from preK - 12th grade everyday, so the vast range of ages makes my day exciting! I also LOVE learning about other cultures and my kids teach me so much! It is a joy!
Three adjectives students would use to describe me: Dwarf, Super Happy, Kind
A few of my favorite things include: Travelling, Sicily, Soccer, Ohio State Football, small trucks with 3 wheels, bubbly water, Languages
What is most important to me in my role: The most important part of my job is being an advocate for my students AND their families. So many of them have been through so much. It is important to me that they feel safe and welcome in our school. Even in the very best of circumstances, they have left behind everything; including friends and family. So, having compassion and empathy as they transition to a new school and a new COUNTRY is important.

Reason(s) I chose to pursue my position at Midview Local Schools: I always loved integrating technology into my classes when I was a homeroom teacher, so this just seemed like the perfect fit!
Some of my hobbies/interests outside of my career: Definitely baking, traveling, and being on the lake.
I am not a big fan of: When people sing to you on your birthday.
Working at Midview Local Schools has taught ME: That we really are one big family/community. I went to Midview growing up, and couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else.
