A Note from Mr. Wilkerson

Dear McKelvey Community,

Our first week has been a busy one adjusting back into school mode, learning routines and meeting new and old friends. I am excited and look forward to meeting all of my new families and revisiting with my old ones as we work together to make this year a successful one for your child.

I know that you received a separate message about AM and PM procedures. Thank you for adhering to these procedures, as they are put in place to make it as safe as possible for all.

Lastly, please remember that we start school promptly at 8:55 and we start our dismissal procedures at approximately 3:40. It is vital to your child's education that, unless there are extenuating circumstances, they are present in school during those times. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.

Attendance Matters!

As we kick-off a new school year, we want to remind you that attendance matters. Attendance at school is the initial step in achieving academic success. Education is a total process based on continual communication and shared responsibilities among parents, students, teachers, and the school. Unless your child is sick, they need to be at school every day and they need to be here on time. We miss them when they are not here, and they miss out on valuable learning opportunities that are building blocks to future success.

In this space each week, we will be tracking our attendance progress with the hopes of surpassing last year’s attendance achievement of 93.8%. With all of us working together, we can do it!

PTO Fundraising

McKelvey PTO is excited to support both McKelvey Primary and McKelvey Intermediate in various ways throughout the school year.

To be able to do this, we offer a “no-hassle” fundraiser. Instead of asking families to buy or sell items throughout the year, we ask each family to make a one-time monetary donation to support all the PTO activities. This way, 100% of your money goes to the PTO and our efforts to support our schools, teachers and most importantly our students. The campaign begins now and will run until Saturday, August 31st.

PTO is able to support our schools by providing:

Buses for field trips

Classroom supplies and books
Furniture
Items for field day and other school wide events
Campus improvements and beautification projects
Staff and teacher appreciation programs
Technology
Classroom parties and celebrations
Misc. teacher, school and department needs throughout the year

Nurse's Notes

Greetings!

Just a reminder that all medication at school must be kept in the nurse's office. Students may not bring medicine in to keep in their lunch bags or backpacks. This is a safety issue for them and other students in the school.

The medication authorization form needs to be filled out every year for all medications - prescription and over the counter medication. I am attaching the link to the form so you will have it over the summer to have your doctor fill it out.

Volunteering at School

The success of our students would not be possible without the involvement and support of parents and the community. We love to connect with families in as many ways possible throughout the school year. Get a head start on approval for field trips, working in the library, or assisting with classroom projects by completing Parkway's required steps for volunteering at school. We look forward to seeing you in our school this coming year!

Each July, Parkway resets all of our volunteer accounts to renewal required. While your fingerprint results are good for up to six years as long as you stay active as a volunteer from year to year, there are still a few steps that you need to complete as a returning volunteer.

Be a part of something special! The McKelvey Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is made up of the parents of all the students at both McKelvey schools (K-5) and all teachers. We work together for the benefit of students to plan events, fundraisers, volunteer, take care of our teachers, and provide amazing resources to enhance our student learning. In short - the PTO helps make McKelvey awesome!

As a parent/guardian of a McKelvey Dragon, you are automatically a member. Please get involved as much as you are able. There are many ways, big and small, to connect and contribute to our school community. PTO's general meetings are led by our PTO Board, a small group of elected parents and teacher representatives.
