G.L.H. Johnson Elementary School
Johnson hosted their SOL Family Night and also served dinner to families. Families participated and learned math as well as reading strategies to support their student's learning at home. Go Gators!
Activ8 Stem Academy
These 6th grade scholars explored topics in 3-dimensional space using the Z-Space computers. They explored the inner working of the human heart, life cycle of a butterfly and used their artistic talents.
Virginia School Board Association
Dr. Stone, Director of CTE and GW/AET and CTE completer, Chris Stone II, presented at a VSBA session regarding the CTE academies and pathways at DPS. CTE shared how specialized career-focused education prepares students for both the workforce and post-secondary success. By highlighting industry-aligned curricula, hands-on training, and partnerships with local businesses, we can demonstrate the real-world impact of these programs. Additionally, sharing student success stories and efforts will emphasize the value of CTE and rigorous academic programs can shape future career opportunities.
Park Avenue Elementary School
Smokestack Theatre Company joined the afterschool STEAM+C Enrichment group for fun-filled session on stage direction, focus, and improv! Students played "Stage Direction Corners," sharpened their skills with "Zip, Zap, Zop," created sound effects, and brought superhero characters to life.

Our 2025 Summer Enrichment Camp registration is now open! This summer, our district is excited to provide a wide range of enriching opportunities designed to support student growth, ignite curiosity, and prepare learners for a successful academic year ahead. These camps will be held from June 30 - July 3 from 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Transportation and meals will be provided.

If your child will be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2025, it's time to sign them up for kindergarten to begin their educational journey!

Kindergarten Registration at Head Start
DPS FACE Team partnered with Community Improvement Council, Head Start to kickoff their Kindergarten Registration. Families enjoyed a fashion show, community health fair and food!
This group will meet once a week, starting April 1, for light to moderate walks that promote physical health, mental well-being, and social connection.
Don't miss out on Ballou Recreation Center's Resource Fair on April 10th from 10 AM to 1 PM. Over 45 organizations will be on-site in the upper and lower level of the center to provide resources for you!
The first 100 children will receive a take home egg hunt bag from the Spring Egg-Stravaganza inside Ballou Recreation Center on Saturday, April 12th from 10 AM to 12 PM. This is a free event!
EGG-cellent news! The Easter Bunny is coming to the Community Market! Take pictures with the Easter Bunny and enjoy a delicious hot dog lunch. Bring your basket and prepare for a thrilling egg hunt.
