Week 22
Hello BCS Families and Friends,
This week, we reached an exciting milestone – the 100th day of school! It’s hard to believe we’re already more than halfway through the school year. This special day provided our students with the perfect opportunity to reflect on the amazing learning journey they’ve had so far.
Throughout the week, students engaged in creative and meaningful activities that celebrated not only the number 100 but also their growth and progress as learners. From counting to 100 in unique ways to exploring fun challenges, it was a wonderful reminder of how far we've come together.
As we celebrate the 100th day, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible dedication and enthusiasm our students and staff bring to school each day. It’s because of their hard work, curiosity, and passion for learning that our school continues to thrive.
Looking ahead, I’m excited for the many more opportunities to continue building on the foundation we’ve laid thus far. We will keep inspiring each other to reach new heights and celebrate the joy of learning every day!
Thank you for your continued support in making this year a success. Here’s to the next 100 days of learning!
Best,
Jenny
Things to Know at BCS
School-wide Rules & Routines
Here at BCS we are constantly reviewing and reminding ourselves and our students of our school rules, routines and expectations. We follow Responsive Classroom as a framework for creating safe, respectful and fun school communities.
At the heart of the Responsive Classroom approach lies a core belief: In order to be successful in and out of school, students need to learn a set of social and emotional competencies — cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control—and a set of academic competencies — academic mindset, perseverance, learning strategies, and academic behaviors.
And, with all things- there will be times where the rules may get broken, or a challenging moment comes up. At Bridport, we take these moments as learning opportunities and help students recognize their actions and work to repair any harm that was caused. We believe that this approach helps all children learn and grow in a safe, respectful way.
You may begin to see "repair" checklists come home when bumps happen through the day. We hope that by students sharing how they overcame a tricky moment, we strengthen the bond between home and school.
If you have any questions, please reach out!
Day of Play
One of the BCS traditions I am most looking forward to this year is Day of Play! Bridport has been participating in the Global Day of Play for over a decade- and I've heard that it is a highlight of the year.

Everybody Wins! is looking for mentors
Everybody Wins! Mentors in Bridport get to spend one hour each week with a student during
their lunch/recess time on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. During this time, mentors and
students will read books, play simple and quick games together, and build a positive adult/child
relationship to help strengthen our growing community, all within the safe and familiar school
environment.
If this sounds like you or someone that you know, spread the word! Talk to our Everybody Wins!
Coordinator Chris Allen. He is at Bridport Central School during lunch and recess on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. You can also email him at bridport@everybodywinsvermont.org or
Call him at (802)999-6874 (or text)
And please visit our website to learn more about Everybody Wins! Vermont.
February's All School Read Aloud
Separate is Never Equal: Sylvia Mendez & Her Family’s Fight for Desegregation by Duncan Tonatiuh
Almost 10 years before Brown vs. Board of Education, Sylvia Mendez and her parents helped end school segregation in California. An American citizen of Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage who spoke and wrote perfect English, Mendez was denied enrollment to a “Whites only” school. Her parents took action by organizing the Hispanic community and filing a lawsuit in federal district court. Their success eventually brought an end to the era of segregated education in California.

News from ACSD
School Board Appreciation Month!
We want to thank our thirteen ACSD School Board members for the time, collaboration, and deep investment they make to ensure a brighter future for our students, our district, and our community. We want to send a special appreciation to Chip Malcom and Joanna Doria who are leaving the Board this year. Chip has served on the ACSD board since unification in 2016 and previously served on the UD3 Board from 1985-2000, including 6 years as chair. Joanna has served on the ACSD Board since 2022. School board members are elected officials who live in one of our district towns and represent all members of the ACSD community. School board elections are held each Town Meeting day with a rotating number of our thirteen seats up each year. Learn more about the board: www.acsdvt.org/school-board/
