STEM Night
Thursday is STEM Night! Please make time to join us at Hoover from 5:30-7 pm for this fun and educational evening.
Hoover Updates
Greetings Hoover Community,
It was an amazing week at Hoover. We kicked off Math Month on Monday with an assembly by Jim Basketball Jones. In this assembly, Jim talked about having a growth mindset. We might have challenges and things that are hard but we can do anything we set our mind to we just might not be able to do it yet. Hard work and focusing on our unique strengths will allow us to accomplish our dreams. His message was perfect heading into Math Month as we work hard to stretch our brains with some fun and exciting math challenges. Students who turned in their challenge problem can come to school on Monday with Wild Hair:)
Today we also recognized our students who received SOAR tickets for doing a great job following our mission here at Hoover. They received a red, white, and blue SOAR bracelet if their ticket was pulled. If you see one of these bracelets come home make sure to celebrate the fact that your son or daughter is SOARing at school.
Next week we will have our PTA meeting on Wednesday and our STEM night on Thursday. STEM night is super fun evening at Hoover. Please join us for this fun and engaging evening. On STEM night we have Math Games, Robot Demonstrations, Coding activities, building, and so much more. Please stop up from 5:30-7 to learn more about STEM in the schools.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful weekend.

Student Attendance
Attending school everyday is extremely important for your student's academic and social progress. Please keep an eye on your student's attendance and only keep them home when they are sick or have an appointment. Days can add up and the research is really clear that students with chronic absenteeism fall behind and often struggle to catch up. If you are having trouble getting your child to school please reach out as we are happy to help.

Hoover Family Survey
Good Afternoon Hoover Rockets,
In hopes of getting some very important feedback from the Hoover community, we have put together the following survey. This survey is part of our Quality Review Process and the information collected will be utilized to better meet the needs of our Hoover families and students. We hope that your parent teacher conference was informational and we want to continue to find ways to work together to make Hoover the very best. Please take a few minutes to complete our Hoover Family Survey.
Thank you in advance for this valuable feedback.

Hoover Updates
From the entire Hoover Staff, we want to thank our families for joining us for Conferences this week! These conversations are so important as we develop a plan together to support our young learners throughout the year. This week we also sent out a survey to learn more about your perspectives on your experiences at Hoover. If you have not already, please take 5 minutes and fill out this survey. This information is extremely helpful as we try and improve and meet the needs of our students and families. The link can be found above.
This week we celebrated on Monday the classrooms who raised the most money for the PTA Color Run. This was a fantastic fundraiser in which the students raised over $33,000 that will go directly to extending and enriching the learning experiences of every Hoover Rocket.
In the classrooms the students are working really hard. I am so lucky each day because I get to visit each classroom and see the engaging experiences taking place. Last year we placed a large focus on student talk which we will continue to build upon this school year. When students are talking and engaged each day they are the ones doing the learning and growing academically and socially. This year we will continue to focus on this student engagement but we are adding a focus on Productive Struggle. This is a bit of a paradigm shift as teachers are quick to jump in and help because it is in our nature to be helpful. Students need the right amount of struggle to stretch their thinking and learn. We are learning strategies to increase productive struggle in the classroom. We will be sharing tips with you for home so that you can optimize your time working with your learner on homework and reading practice.
Next week we will have a PTA meeting on Wednesday. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the amazing things the PTA has planned for the children. Your voice is valuable as we are always looking for ways to improve.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns. My door is always open!
Go Lions and Go Tigers this weekend!

Meet the Staff
Hello Hoover Rockets!
My name is Shelby Franklin and I am ecstatic about being a Hoover Rocket this year! If you have not already met me, I am one of the new Elementary Support Teachers. My role specifically handles medical, behavioral, and social emotional needs. As I have been getting to know many faces over the last two weeks, I wanted to share a little about myself. I am a Livonia native, and attended Hoover Elementary as a kid. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, I moved to South Carolina where I was a classroom teacher for many years. During my time in South Carolina, I obtained an Educational Administration degree from the University of South Carolina. After the birth of my son last year, we decided to move closer to family which led us back to Michigan. This is a very full circle moment for me to be back where my educational journey began! Please feel free to reach out to me at any time with questions or concerns. I am looking forward to a great school year!
Hoover Robotics
As we get ready to kick off our new season, we would like to say “Thanks!” to our Hoover community. Thank you to the families that supported our team at the Red Robin fundraiser last June. We are so grateful for those funds to continue to build and grow STEM here at Hoover. Thank you also to the Parent Group for funding our purchase of two additional robotics kits. This generous support will allow us to bring more opportunities for Coding Camp and give our team members more individual practice prior to our competitions. Thank you so very much!

Week One at Hoover!
It has been an amazing first week here at Hoover. The students have been fantastic as we work on routines and procedures that will set us up for success for the rest of the year. This week we had our first half day, first lunch, first special classes, first recess, and so much more. In a week of firsts, the students made new friends and worked hard to set the foundation for their new year of learning.
Next week is Safety Week here at Hoover. We have no school Friday and Monday and then when we get back on Tuesday we will begin learning about all our safety procedures. Tuesday we will have a Fire Drill, Wednesday we will practice our first Lockdown, and Thursday we will learn about what to do in case of severe weather. This is a great week to focus on Safety in your home as well since they will be talking about these procedures at school. Does your son or daughter know what to do in case of a fire at home? Do they know about stranger danger? Internet Safety on their devices? Think about these topics at the dinner table and build upon the topics the kids are learning at school.
We look forward to another great week when the students return from Labor Day break. Have a wonderful weekend. Here are some important upcoming dates and below you will also find some exciting opportunities for after school activities and information from the Hoover PTA.

We are excited to welcome our Young Fives Kindergartners for the first time on Monday. Please see the map included in this letter for drop off and pick up. Your entrance and exit door is the first door on the south side of Hoover. Parking needs to take place in the North lot and then you can walk to these doors. Some families like to park in the neighborhood closest to the South Side of Hoover for a shorter walk. There is a black top area to gather at and Ms. Wilk will meet you out there at 8:55 to walk the students into school. She will also walk the students out that door at the end of the day to meet parents and send the kids home for the day. Mrs. Smith is our paraprofessional who will be helping the kids all day as well and will help with arrival and dismissal.
Fall RE-Enrollment information from the district:
In recent years, LPS initiated an online process that replaces the traditional practice of sending “pink emergency cards” home for a parent's signature. The electronic completion of our Fall Enrollment Confirmation is an annual start-of-the-year requirement for each child currently enrolled in an LPS school. This must be completed for new and returning students.
Parents must access the electronic Fall Enrollment Confirmation through Parent Connect for the 2024-2025 school year. The Fall Enrollment Confirmation tab (in red, located in the upper right corner of screen) on Parent Connect has been activated and will allow parents/guardians to directly edit items such as emergency contact information and student health information. Other requirements include parental confirmations of items such as internet usage rules, medical authorization, and a student handbook review.
PLEASE USE A COMPUTER (NOT A CELL PHONE) TO COMPLETE THE FALL ENROLLMENT CONFIRMATION.
Please take a few moments before the school year begins to complete the confirmation. As a reminder, you can access Parent Connect via the district website www.livoniapublicschools.org by clicking on the Parents tab. If you have trouble accessing your Parent Connect account, please send an email with your student’s name and the issue you are experiencing to parentconnect@livoniapublicschools.org.
Transportation Information:
ALL BUS REQUESTS MUST BE INDICATED VIA PARENT CONNECT!
All students in K-12 eligible for transportation based on their home address will be required to request transportation for the 2024-2025 school year. Students who do not "opt in" to request transportation will not be assigned a route. Details of how to "opt in" are linked here.
Bus route information for eligible students who "opt in" for bus transportation will be posted in Parent Connect for students in grades K-12 on August 22.
If you are not certain whether your child qualifies for transportation in the 2024-2025 school year, please email lpsbus@livoniapublicschools.org or call 734-744-2517.
Hoover Procedures:
Teacher Placement Notification
Parents will be informed of their student’s teacher placement on August 22. This can be found in Parent Connect. If you are not familiar with Parent Connect or need help accessing, please contact our office.
Gentle Arrival:
We will once again have a drop off window in which students can be dropped off at any time between 8:45 and 8:55 am. Students will enter the building through their assigned doors and staff will be around the building to ensure they get in safely. Children should arrive no earlier than 8:45 a.m. There is no supervision for students before or after school. Students will be dismissed at 4 p.m. and are expected to immediately walk home or get on the bus.
School Supply Lists
School Supply Lists can be found on the Hoover Website. Click here
HANDBOOK
The Hoover Handbook can be found by visiting our website. This handbook covers all the rules and procedures including the district code of conduct. Please review this handbook and use it for reference throughout the school year. If you are unable to view this document online, please let our office know and we can send a copy home.
PTA
The Parent Teacher Association is a dedicated group of parents and teachers who enrich the lives of the boys and girls at Hoover by sponsoring and supporting many wonderful activities. Joining our PTA is a way to support your children. Even if you are unable to volunteer for PTA activities because of your work or home schedule, please consider supporting your child by becoming a member of Hoover PTA. Look for the PTA welcome table at Open House and have coffee on the first day. Visit them for more information.
Lunch and Breakfast Program
The hot lunch program will start Tuesday, August 27, and be available every full school day. School lunch will be free for all students again this year. Free and reduced meal application forms must be completed online this year (Click Here). All family members should be listed on one form. If you need help with the process of applying for free and reduced lunch, please call the office and someone will assist you. A new application must be filled out every school year.
Breakfast will be available every morning.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
Please be aware that Livonia Public Schools does not insure students for accidental injuries during the school year. The personal insurance of the parent or guardian is assumed to cover any and all medical treatments for such injuries. Unfortunately, some parents and guardians have limited or no medical coverage and health care is expensive. Each school year, the school district offers reasonably priced student accident insurance plans. Application forms and brochures explaining the options are available at the Board of Education during the school year. Our objective is not to sell insurance but to inform parents and guardians that there are alternatives for those who have no medical coverage.
MEDICATION POLICY
Livonia Public School policy prohibits school employees from diagnosing, prescribing, or dispensing medication of any kind to a student without special permission from the student’s physician. Medical authorization forms are available in the school office. These forms need to be completed and signed by the physician and signed by the parent/guardian every school year. Please contact Mr. Daraskavich with any questions about medication or health plans. mdaraska@livoniapublicschools.org.
ATTENDANCE LINE
Hoover has a school attendance line that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please contact us at 734-744-2731 to let us know about an absence. There is also a form available on the Hoover website where you can let us know about an absence. If you will be out an extended period of time, please use the attendance line to let our offices know. We will be using an automated call service again this year. You will get a call in the AM and PM if your son or daughter is not at school that day. If you would like schoolwork for your child, please call in the morning on the main school line so teachers have ample time to prepare the work. You may pick up the work in the office after school, or have it sent home with a sibling or friend.
VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS
For the safety of the children at Hoover and to reduce classroom interruptions, parents and visitors are required to report to the office upon entering the building.
CALL US – 734-744-2730
The staff and I are eager to work with you and your child and we anticipate having a fantastic school year. If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to discuss them with your child’s teacher or me.
I look forward to an amazing school year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. My door is always open!

PTA Beginning of the year information
The Hoover PTA is so excited for this upcoming school year! We can't wait to see everyone at our first event of the year - Popsicles on the Playground. Join us on Thursday, 8/22 from 4:30-6pm on the Hoover North playground to enjoy a popsicle, see friends and kick off the year! We will have Rocket decal stickers for sale ($1) during this event.
Also, on Monday 8/26 the Hoover PTA will be serving donuts to parents after drop off on the first day of school. Please join us to celebrate (or commiserate) the kids Blasting Off to School! Look for us near the north playground/kindergarten doors.
There will be many opportunities to volunteer and get involved with your Hoover community this year. Please check the signup genius' below to see if you can help.
We are always in need of helping hands in the morning after the second bell rings to sign in students who arrive late, take and deliver items being dropped off, and more. This is a small job that lightens the load for our front office staff during the busy morning time. No experience necessary!
Time commitment: 8:55-9:15 am
Another great opportunity to help at Hoover is to volunteer to be a "PAL" (Parents at Lunch) in the cafeteria. As you can imagine it's no small feat getting all of the Hoover students fed during lunch time. Many hands help to make lunchtime run smoothly. If you can open go-gurts, lunchables, and fruit cups - this is a job for you.
Time commitment: 11:30-12:30pm
Looking forward to seeing returning and new families soon!

Welcome Back Hoover Rockets
2024-2025 School Year
Welcome Back Hoover Rockets! It is hard to believe that the start of the school year is two weeks away. We look forward to seeing all those smiling faces on Monday, August 26. The first day of school is a half day with dismissal at 12:10. I hope that you all had wonderful and relaxing summer breaks and are coming back in a couple weeks ready for an amazing year! Here are some important dates and updates as we get prepped for the first day.
- Construction and summer cleaning are still taking place the next two weeks. We have every assurance that everything will be done and beautiful by August 26. Because the building will not be ready, the tours next Thursday have been canceled here at Hoover. I have to say the transition is impressive and I can't wait to open the doors to the community to come see our new LMC, PLTW room, kitchen, and office spaces.
- Popsicles on the Playground - August 22 from 4:30-6. This is a PTA Sponsored event in which every Hoover Rocket can come up to play and meet some new friends. The PTA will be passing out popsicles and the Hoover Staff will be available for an informal meet and greet on the playground.
- First Day of School - August 26 - 1/2 Day / No School - August 30 and September 2 for Labor Day break.
- Livonia's Bounce Back to School will be held again at Riley, August 15, 5-8 pm.
- Teacher Placement will be made public in Parent Connect on August 22. Please visit Parent Connect for teacher placement, transportation information, and so much more.
- New Face in the office - This summer Mrs. Sosnowski took a position as the lead secretary at Rosedale Elementary. We are excited to welcome Renee Sudz as our new secretary helping Mrs. Gregg in the office. If you stop up or call make sure to welcome Mrs. Sudz to the Hoover Community.
- Our very own Mrs. Broome was accepted last week by the Livonia Board of Education as the new Principal at Hayes Elementary. We are so excited for Mrs. Broome as she takes this next step in her career and she will be deeply missed by everyone in the Hoover Community.
- Lunch remains free again this school year. Please have your child follow classroom lunch choice procedures and indicate hot lunch if they want lunch here at school.
The Hoover Happenings will be sent out every Friday during the school year. I will send out any further important information as we get closer to the school year.
Enjoy the remainder of summer.
