Attention Seniors who are planning to apply to 4 year universities! Now is the time to start narrowing down your list of schools to apply to. If you can't go visit, try to spend time on their website looking around at what they can offer you. Do you want a school that feels small? Do you want a school that has a culture of attending sporting events? Do you want a school where the classes are taught by professors or are you fine with TAs? Is it important to be able to drive back home in a short amount of time? Are you trying to get out of state? Is your culture well represented at the school you are looking at? Does that matter to you? There are many factors that go into selecting a college, and the only person who can decide if it is the right fit for a student, is the student.

The FAFSA is not opening until December this year. To get ready for it, make sure you have created a FSA ID: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch Each student will need an account, and 1 parent will need one as well.

Students can also start applying to college using the Common App: https://www.commonapp.org/

What does it mean to apply early decision to a college? If you apply early decision to a college, you are telling that college you are committed to them if they accept you. This is a binding agreement; meaning you have to accept their offer if you are admitted to their university. If you are planning to apply regular decision to universities, shoot to have your applications finished by Thanksgiving break.Your school counselor would love to help you with college questions.

Senior meetings start in October and each senior will have a 10 minute meeting with their counselor to review credits, talk graduation, and help plan for what comes after high school. We look forward to meeting with each of you.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about bullying in all its forms. With the rise of social media and cell phones, bullying has extended beyond school hours, making it harder to escape.

Research shows that 37% of young people between 12 and 17 have been bullied online, and nearly 30% of them have experienced it multiple times. The anonymity of social media often makes it easier for bullying to spread, leaving many students feeling helpless.

Cyberbullying can have serious effects, leading to anxiety, depression, and even impacting school performance. That's why it's crucial for us to encourage healthy digital habits, talk openly about the responsible use of technology, and remind our students that their words—online and offline—carry weight.

Together, we can create a safer, kinder environment for everyone.

Congratulations to our very own Dan Call, who has been honored with the 2024 Washington Association for Language Teaching (WAFLT) Language Teacher of the Year award! This prestigious recognition highlights Mr. Call's dedication to his students, his innovative teaching methods, and his outstanding role as a presenter and advocate within the Latino community. His passion for connecting students with the wider world is truly inspiring. He will receive his award at the annual fall WAFLT conference in Portland on October 11 and will represent Washington as a nominee for the Pacific Northwest Council For Languages Teacher of the Year. We are incredibly proud of Mr. Call and excited to see him continue to shine!
