Sunrise Family Updates
10.23.24
Dear Sunrise Families - I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to get this message out early this week to make sure you received the following reminders:
- Tonight (10/23), we have Family Teacher Conferences from 3:00 - 6:30 pm.
- Tomorrow (10/24), students are dismissed at 10:50 am. Conferences are from 12 - 3 pm.
Thursday we will practice walking to our rally point. In the event of any emergency needing a quick evacuation from Sunrise (for example a gas leak or other threat) we would walk to our rally point then be bussed to our reunification site. In the next couple of weeks we will also practice a full lockdown drill; teachers will review this practice with students prior to the drill. Our safety committee wanted to share this information prior to practicing these drills in case your children have questions.
When we return from our practice, we will celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month with a Mexican treat of watermelon with tajin and viewing of the movie Coco. :)
Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you at conferences!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal
P.S. Please check out the lost and found when you are here for conferences, the wonderful family resources available AND the Dairy Queen Dilly Cart will be here for you to purchase any sweet treats (on Thursday only for DQ)!
Screenagers Series
Because the concern for our children in the digital age is shared throughout Door County (and the nation), we are teaming up with our neighboring school districts. Throughout the school year, we will take turns hosting different parts of this video series. Thank you for considering joining us on 10/29 at Sevastopol with time for discussion afterward.
Sevastopol School District will be hosting a county-wide informational forum and discussion on Tuesday, October 29, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Join professional educators, community partners and families for a special screening of “Screenagers—Growing Up in the Digital Age”.
Screenagers is about the impact of the digital age on children and how to help them minimize harmful effects and find balance around screen time.
The stories and science behind the message are significant, and the discussions to follow will help you feel better equipped to manage devices with your child(ren).
Please view this trailer for more information https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CgkFp9k-bI or contact the school for more information.
The event is free and open to the public. No prior registration is necessary. Sevastopol School is located at 4550 Highway 57. Enter school through door #1 in the southeast corner of the building.
DIRECTIONS: From Highway 57 turn east onto Ripp Road (located just south of school). Drive approximately ¼ mile and take Pioneer Way.
This drive will take you to parking and the school’s primary entrance. Enter through door #1 and the Carl Scholz Pioneer Room is straight ahead and adjacent to the atrium.
Halloween Costume Contest and Guidelines
Socktober!
During the month of October, 4th graders are asking ALL Sunrise students to help with our community service project: SOCKTOBER! Our goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of *new* socks to be donated to Feed and Clothe My People. Socks are one of the most requested items for donation, and with winter coming up, everyone needs warm, cozy, and comfortable feet!
There will be one box for each grade level near the cafeteria. You can donate a single pair of new socks, or a package of socks will count for the number of pairs in that package. The grade level that collects the most pairs will receive a popcorn and juice party! The competition starts Tuesday, October 1st and goes until Thursday, October 31st.
Thank you for helping with our project!
