Dear Mathis Elementary Families,

Are you and your children enjoying the 4-day school weeks? I know our staff is feeling more rested and prepared to take on each day. There is a balance I have asked the staff to remember now that we have a shorter work week. Shortening the number of days that we come to school makes each day a little more important. Getting to school on time and staying all day is vital!

MES is greeting students well into the 9 o'clock hour, when instruction starts at 7:45 am. Please work to get students to school on time and allow them to stay all day. If students leave even 1 hour early, those minutes add up. In 1st and 2nd grade, students switch classes; therefore, checking out students early or dropping them off late creates gaps in learning because they are not present for all of the class periods.

Please do your best to plan ahead for doctor appointments. Our calendar is posted below and I'd be happy to provide paper copies of it to families that ask. Let's do our best to keep our students in class for the full length of each school day, especially now that we have fewer of them.

I appreciate all of our Mini Pirate families and always feel supported. Let's continue to work together to provide the best learning environment for our kiddos! As always, Mrs. Gonzales, Mrs. Galvan, and myself are here to help!

UIL is an academic competition.

We will be placing a sign-up sheet down the 2nd grade hallway the week of Sept. 3rd through 6th. We will then conduct try-outs to finalize our teams. Categories are Music Memory, Storytelling, and Creative Writing. More information will be provided to the final team on when practices will be held and the date of the competition date.
