It is National Volunteer Week and we want to take a moment to thank you for all the invaluable time, energy, and experience you bring to our schools. We have volunteers that chaperone field trips, set up for concerts, assist students with learning, coordinate special events, guest speak in classes, facilitate student clubs, put together class projects...the list goes on, and we are grateful.
A week could never be enough to thank you for the difference you are making in our schools, but we want you to know you are appreciated! Together really is better.
Trip to the Bay Area Humane Society!
After raising money selling snacks to the teachers and putting collection boxes in two 4th grade classrooms, these young ladies, Addie, Aubree, and Sophia purchased and collected several boxes of items for the special pets. They had a ton of fun choosing what to buy and Addie and Aubree headed over there on April 8th to deliver the goods and check out the pets that are up for adoption. A special thank you to the teachers at Meadowbrook and the Mrs. Tousignant’s and Mrs. Bauknecht’s classrooms for their generous donations!!! We love our animals!

Getting Ready For Lineville Intermediate School – (Grade 5 and new Intermediate school students)
8:30-12 noon each session. Please sign up for only 1 session. August 20th OR August 21st.
Where will my locker be located? How do I work a combination lock? What classes will I be taking? Will I be able to find my classes without getting lost? Activities will include tours of the intermediate school, practicing locker combinations, learning about the intermediate school structure and schedule. Students will be able to meet most of the 5th grade staff so there is a familiar face and smile on the first day of school.
At 11 o’clock, adults will join students for a Passport experience giving the students more time to practice getting around and show off what they have learned! This time will also be an alternative “Open House” time allowing for parent(s) to meet teachers and everyone to set up their lockers! Using this time eliminates the need to come during the hectic district Open House night. Students will get a head start and feel much more comfortable transitioning to the Intermediate School by taking this class. (Students should enroll in only 1 session).
Looking ahead to the 19/20 School Year

A note from your School Board Representative
From your School Board
“Education then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance-wheel of the social machinery…”
Horace Mann
Our students continue to perform academically at a high level. Whether measured against our local districts, the state of Wisconsin or other countries, our students distinguish themselves on a regular basis. One of the keys to this level of success is the support the district receives from our community. When complemented by ongoing, transparent dialogue, the Howard and Suamico communities have demonstrated consistent, heart-felt support for our students, educators and leadership.
While there are many other positives in our district, public education is not without serious ongoing, as well as newer challenges. Perhaps the most long-standing hurdle continues to be the state funding formula that creates million dollar inequities amongst similar districts only miles apart. HSSD in partnership with local legislators have made meaningful progress in solving this issue, but much work remains. From anxiety to depression, a more recent and emerging nationwide struggle is the increased prevalence of mental health challenges amongst students. As a parent and board member I’m proud of the intensive, compassionate approach HSSD demonstrates every day as they tackle this unique challenge head-on. Even amongst the constant balance of success and struggle, I share Horace Mann’s hope, via public education, for future generations.
