Term 2 Week 9 Monday 23 June 2025
Principals Message
Kia ora Kokopu Whanau,
The end of the term is always a great time to reflect on students achievements and school events. Again, students have put an incredible amount of effort into their learning. They continue to work hard while showing the school's values.
This term has been our senior students' first go at our new math program, Maths No Problem, and the juniors have just received their extended NUMICON set, which is great hands on math tools. We have also continued to have a broad curriculum including winter sports days, country study meals, gymnastics, Kapa Haka, Matariki planting day and much more.
One area we notice is still not as high as we would like, is times tables knowledge in our year 3-8 students. If you have some time over the holiday break, it would be great for students to do a bit more practice, especially with the trickier ones. This is a great little timetables web app that students may enjoy practicing on. www.bexteachingresources.com/timestables
I would like to inform you that Cindy Stafford has resigned from her position in room 4. Cindy has worked at Kokopu School for 9 Years and has taught in both the new entrant room and years 3-4. We thank her for her service to the students and families of Kokopu School and wish her well. Next term Lisa East and Rhonda Sparrow will be in room 4.
Next term I will be on sabbatical leave. This was postponed from this term. My area of focus will be AI in education. There are some exciting developments in this area, and they are changing on a daily basis. While I am away, Jennifer Hibbert and Paul Ruddell will be acting principals. Jennifer on Monday - Wednesday, and Paul on Thursday – Friday.
With our last day of term being this Friday 27th June (3pm finish) the staff and I hope you all have a happy and safe holiday break. We look forward to seeing the children back at school on Monday 14th July.
