Michigan Youth Dance Festival
Eleven students from Wildcat Dance Theatre were selected through an adjudication process to represent Wayland at the very prestigious Michigan Youth Dance Festival at the University of Michigan last Saturday. Mrs. Hill's students attended workshops and scholarship auditions. They took various dance classes and met up with other select dancers from all over the state of Michigan. In the evening, our dancers performed their adjudicated piece 'Amber Alert' at the culminating performance.
Over the past few years, Wildcat Dance Theatre has gained state-wide notoriety for their program, their educator and the dancers.
The 2024 cast of MYDF dancers includes: Madelyn Bouma, Reese Cassini, Violette Cooper, Isabel Cross, Reilyn Heppe, Sadie Holcomb, Kenzie Kooiker, Alaina Lancaster, Libby Roberts, Olivia Smith and Josi Whip
Drones
In Mr. Brown's 8th grade science class, students have been working on coding. The first step of this process was to program a Sphero to run through a course. Once they completed that task, students were able to begin coding drones to fly through a series of obstacles on the ceiling. Students were having a lot of fun navigating through the coding programs to complete the challenges.
PEERs at Dorr Elementary
At the start of the year, 3rd grade teachers were asked for their students who showed leadership, initiative, and were great role models. Dorr Elementary had 27 3rd graders participate in the Peer to Peer program. These PEERs helped with a number of things, such as morning/dismissal routine, participating in lessons, helping students with work, and being a friend!
To celebrate the excellent work the PEERs have done this year, they got to have a pizza and ice cream party! Students and their PEERs came together to enjoy this special treat.

Pine Street Visit
On May 24th, the 3rd graders from Dorr and Steeby visited Pine Street Elementary in preparation for next school year. Pine Street 4th grade students spent time with their 3rd grade partners telling them about all the wonderful things at Pine Street, answering questions and giving tours of the building. We are so excited to have this awesome group of 3rd graders join us next year.
Steeby Elementary Field Day
2nd and 3rd graders at Steeby Elementary had a wonderful field day on May 24th. Students were able to rotate around to different stations and even received snow cones. A big thank you goes to the MS Student Council members for assisting with the event!
