5 Hour Pre-Licensing & Boating Safety Courses
SUNY Adirondack will be offering a 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course on various dates from March - August. Pre-registration is required. Also offered is an About Boating Safely (ABS) course on April 9th from 8:30 am - 5 pm via Zoom. Registration is required. More information about these programs and additional offerings can be found online.
Driver Education Course
Registration is now open for a new Driver Education Program at the Myers Education Center in Saratoga Springs. This course is open to all students 16 years or older that will have their NYS Learners Permit by March 23, 2022. This 24 hour program is designed to educate students on appropriate driving skills and habits as well as playing a responsible role in the highway transportation/safety system. In addition to classroom instruction, there will be 24 hours of concurrent in-car instruction (6 hours behind the wheel and 18 hours of observation). See flyer below for more information.

Summer Programs & Scholarship Contests
2022 PREFACE Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: a summer program for students (entering 11th or 12th grade) who have been historically under-represented in science, engineering, and the technological fields, and who express a strong, early interest in pursuing careers in these areas. More information, including the application, can be found here. Application must be submitted by April 15, 2022
NYU Precollege Program for High School Students: rising juniors and seniors have the opportunity to spend part of their summer (July 6 - August 17) on NYU's campus for six weeks to take college-level courses for credit. Scholarships are available for this program. Deadline: April 1, 2022 (those interested in being considered for a scholarship should apply well before the April 1st deadline)
Boston University's COM Summer Journalism Academy: interested in a career in communications or do you enjoy writing? If so, Boston University's Journalism Academy is for you - step out of your comfort zone and experience life as a working journalist. WPI's Summer Programs: summer programs are being offered both in-person and virtually, providing students with a chance to dive into a STEM discipline with other like-minded students. Registration deadlines vary. More information can be found here.
NDNY-FCBA Constitutional Scholars Constitution Contest: Entries (either video performance or poster) must regard the origin of some aspect of the U.S. Constitution: specifically, one of the six (6) topics listed here. More information can be found here. Deadline: May 1, 2022

Scholarships
Tri-County Branch of the Women's National Farm & Garden Association: eligible applicants must be planning on majoring in agriculture, environmental, forestry, horticulture, oceanographic, or related field. Application is available here. Deadline: May 1, 2022
Saratoga Hospital Volunteer Guild Scholarship: applicants must be planning to enter a college curriculum in a healthcare with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants are required to submit an essay discussing how they have been impacted by the pandemic. Application is available here. Deadline: March 31, 2022
Ben Stanley Memorial Art Scholarship: eligible applicants must be graduating seniors at Schuylerville High School (no graduating students will be excluded from consideration on academic grounds) and submit three (3) pieces of work demonstrating diversity in each body of work, using three (3) different mediums, and submit a 250 word essay. Application information can be found here. Deadline: March 21, 2022
Bridging People & Places Scholarship in memory of Dave Vanderzee (founder of Willard Mountain Ski Area): applicant must have faced a serious illness or serious life crisis; must be enrolled in a certified technical, vocational training program, undergraduate, or graduate program for the semester following the application. Application is available here. Deadline: May 30, 2022
Tri County School Nutrition Directors Scholarship: eligible applicants must be planning to continue their education and pursuing a career in the field of food service/hospitality (ex: chef, cook, manager, restaurant, hospitality, foodservice, food science, nutrition/dietetics). Application can be found here. Deadline: April 1, 2022
Adirondack Paralegal Scholarship: eligible applicants must be in good academic standing and submit an essay, along with the application, transcript, and two letters of recommendation. Application can be found here. Deadline: May 1, 2022
Adirondack School Counselor Association Scholarship: eligible applicants must plan to study human services, sociology, psychology, or a related "helping" field; must demonstrate a record of serving others in a humanitarian way. Application can be found here. Deadline: April 29, 2022

SUNY Adirondack's Spring College Fair
On Thursday, March 17th, interested juniors will have the opportunity to attend the Spring College Fair at SUNY Adirondack. Permission slips were sent home over February break and must be returned to Student Services in order to attend this trip. (This field trip will be capped at 40 students.) Are you interested in EMPIRE GIRL'S STATE?
Girl's State is a hands on leadership program about the governmental process and the Constitution. It is a one week program where the Girls State citizens build the government of a mythical 51st state, from the local level up to the state level.
Girls interested in the program need to be Juniors in the top 1/3 of the class. The program will be in-person and take place from July 3rd to July 9th at SUNY Brockport. Please see your school counselor with any questions and if you are interested. Completed paperwork needs to be submitted by March 12th.
SAT/ACT Testing Information:
The SAT and the ACT will be offered on the following (Saturday) national testing dates. The cost of the SAT is $55. The ACT has a basic fee of $60.00, with an optional writing test (cost with writing is $85.00). If the cost of these tests presents a hardship, you may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please check with Mrs. Rust or Mrs. O'Brien.

SUNY Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) - this program provides academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for succeeding in college but who may not have otherwise been offered admission to college. Informational sessions will be held for students and families to further understand this program. Find more information and registration links here.
Virtual SUNY College Fairs
This spring, SUNY's Virtual College Fairs are academic-themed! Students can choose from 4 fairs focused on Engineering, Health, Computer or Business majors. Each fair begins with an overview of programs, followed by an opportunity to chat with SUNY colleges. View dates and register here.
