Viers Mill Elementary School

This is Mr. Hawkins, Principal of Viers Mill Elementary School (VMES), with our weekly Sunday message. We enjoyed a literacy-packed week last week with our amazing PTA-sponsored Book Fair and Literacy Night! Thank you to all of the PTA volunteers who assisted with the Book Fair, and we appreciated all of the staff who led such fun and engaging activities at Literacy Night! Please read through our message below with details about Mental Health Awareness Week (October 21-25), PTA Creepy Hollow event (October 26), Fall Spirit Week (October 28 - November 1), and more!

Our school counselors, Ms. Scott and Ms. Tarp, have created classroom activities throughout the upcoming week to promote mental health. Activities will focus on peace, mindfulness, relaxation, gratitude, and how physical activity positively impacts our mental health. Come one, come all to Creepy Hollow, a Halloween-themed event sponsored by our Parent Teacher Association! Creepy Hollow will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26. This is a tremendous event with games, story time, costume parade, crafts, and more!

We will celebrate fall and the end of the first marking period with a Fall Spirit Week! Flyers will go home with students with details about how to celebrate and participate in each day. Please refer to the calendar below for the different theme days.

• Monday, October 28 - Wear pajamas and comfortable clothing for Comfy N Cozy Day
• Tuesday, October 29 - Dress like a farmer or farm animal for Ready for Harvest Day
• Wednesday, October 30 - Wear your fancy clothes on Picture Day to Dress for Success
• Thursday, October 31 - Dress up like a book character for Book Character Day
• Friday, November 1: Wear colors like yellow, red, and orange for Fall Colors Day

MCPS is seeking feedback from students, families, staff, and community members on different calendar options for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years.
