Parent Canvas Connection: Canvas is our learning management system for grades K-12. Do you need a refresher on it, are you looking to set up a new account or need to remember how to get added as an Observer to your student’s classes? We’ve got you covered!
*IMPORTANT!* Check out how to access or set up your Canvas Observer account as a parent, or review this Canvas Parent/Guardian Orientation. Remember, Canvas courses won’t appear until teachers publish them after the school year has started.
3-12th Grade Opt-In Option for Securly Filter: High Restrictions Filter Option
Parents/Guardians with "lives with" and "education rights" of 3rd-12th graders can choose between the default or high restrictions filter policy for their student(s). To learn the differences between the two, please view the Securly Opt-In High Restrictions Filter Policy documentation. The student(s) group filter policy will be applied to their 1:1 school issued computer and will be applied 24/7. Student(s) will remain in the default restrictions group unless a parent/guardian opts into the high restrictions policy. To place a 3rd-12th grade student in the High Restrictions Filter Group, parents should sign up here by August 31st.
High School: MFA Opt-In Option: Parents can opt-in their student for Multi-factor Authentication this Fall by signing up here. The link has information on what MFA is and instructions to sign up. All staff are already required to use it. The following year, 2024-25 this may become mandatory for all High School Students.
Increase in Student Chrome Tabs: Our district IT will increase the maximum number of Chrome browser tabs for students to 12 this year, up from the current 8.

Repeating Information (already shared):
Attendance Notifications:
New attendance alert options available for BVNW families.
Every day BVNW opens its doors to students for a day filled with learning. When a student does not arrive at school, or unexpectedly misses a portion of the school day, we are concerned and want to make sure you are aware that your child is absent.
Beginning Wednesday, August 14th, BVNW will be notifying families of unexpected absences through email, phone, text and optional push notifications. Husky families can expect automated attendance messages by email, phone and text at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. if a child is absent and his/her absence has not already been reported by a parent/guardian. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to call the school to report an absence, report the absence online or reply to the automated email or phone message.
Families who would also like a push notification can download the ParentVUE app and manage their notifications. If a child has an unreported absence when a teacher submits attendance, then a push notification will immediately be sent to the parent/guardian's mobile device. Push notifications will continue throughout the day until the child’s absence is reported/excused, meaning a family could receive multiple push notifications as attendance is typically taken with each class period.
Interested in push notifications? Simply download the ParentVUE app (iTunes app store or Google Play), enable push notifications in device settings and select attendance notifications through in-app settings.

Schedule repair process information:
Blue Valley Northwest students will be able to make schedule “repairs” during the first 3 days of the Fall Semester if they meet the following parameters:
1. The student completed a full schedule of course requests along with four alternates AND 2. The student has a “see counselor” on their schedule.
3. The student was placed in a class that was not listed among their selections as alternates.
If the student's circumstance meets the above criteria, the student should reach out to their counselor during the scheduled repair window at the beginning of the semester.
Why did the district change? We changed to this process for the 23-24 school year and we understand this is a shift from previous “schedule change” practices prior to 2023; however, the stability of the first week is important to student success throughout the semester.
Each school’s Master Schedule is built upon the numbers generated during our spring enrollment period. When significant changes are made in August, classes can become imbalanced, which may result in larger class sizes for your student.
ORDER spirit wear; PREORDER Class tee shirts from The Dawg House!
The Dawg House is our student run school store at Blue Valley Northwest. In addition to spirit wear, BVNW novelty items, and optional PE uniforms, this website is where families can preorder class t-shirts for homecoming. It is a tradition to wear the grade's color during homecoming week. These class shirts are also a fundraiser for the classes.
All orders (aside from class shirts) will be packaged at the start of school and will be available for pick up by the end of August.
Class shirts are a pre-order and will be ready right before homecoming week. Thanks for supporting The Dawg House.

Safety Expectations: Food Deliveries (ex: DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, etc.)
We began utilizing these procedures/guidelines during the 22-23 school year and and we will continue with them this school year.
Food delivery services create a disruption to the learning environment and pose a potential security concern. We will not accept meals delivered by paid delivery services during the school day for students. These deliveries will be refused.
For high school, we ask that students returning from appointments or CAPS/Career Ready Programs enjoy their food purchased off site before returning to the school.
Staff members will be able to order food for student clubs and groups with administrator approval. (Tight delivery protocols will be followed to ensure safety.)
