Dear OMS families,

It was another fantastic week at the nest. Our students never cease to amaze us with their learning, curiosity, kindness, and patience. Educators always say we should write a book about the funny things kids say, but I think I would write a book about all of the kind things they do. It never gets old watching our Olive Owls spread kindness - simple acts like helping pick up a knocked over pencil box or giving up their turn to someone else make the nest a very special place. With Thanksgiving around the corner, we continue to be thankful that we get to work with your children every day!

Veteran's Day Presentation

On Thursday and Friday, Mrs. Pemberton and Ms. Davis were able to celebrate with the October Hoot winners in person! We enjoyed a socially distanced lunch together and some fun playing hide and seek with Mr. Owl.

This year on our morning announcements we are highlighting a person of the day for our students. This is one small initiative that we have started to help bring awareness to our students of all of the amazing people in this world: people of color, women, individuals with disabilities, and so many more characteristics that are represented both within our community and outside of our community.

So far this year we have highlighted: Bessie Coleman, Edward Bouchet, Sonia Sotomayor, Mae Carol Jemison, Mario Molina, Steven Chu, Vinay Bhat, Chelsea Werner, and Pablo Pineda just to name a few!

We encourage families to ask your child about the person of the day!

OMS REMOTE PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES FALL 2020

Thursday, November 19 & Friday, November 20, 2020

Don't forget to sign up for a conference with your child's teacher. The conference window closes on Tuesday, November 17th at 10:00 am. Please contact your child's teacher or the OMS office for any changes after this time.

Nov 19 and Nov 20 - Remote Parent-Teacher Conferences (no student attendance)

Nov 20 - End of First Trimester

Nov 23-27 - Thanksgiving Holiday (no student attendance)

Nov 30 - School Resumes

Dec 3 and 4 - 3rd - 5th Grade MAP Reports sent home via backpack mail

Dec 4 - Report Cards sent via email

We know that times are tough for many families and we are here to help and support you and your children. If your family is in need of support for your children (backpacks, school supplies, lunch boxes, etc.) please reach out to our school social worker Mr. Gasca mgasca@sd25.org , Ms. Davis edavis@sd25.org, or Mrs. Pemberton jpemberton@sd25.org.

Food distribution will continue for all Arlington Heights residents with children 18 and under! Details are below (*notes a change has been made):

• Day: Every Wednesday
• Times: *9:30 am – 10:30 am* & 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
• Where: Thomas Middle School ONLY
• Who: All Arlington Heights families with students age 18 and under
• Important Notes: *Neighbors or friends are allowed to come pick up meal bags for you from Thomas Middle School.*
