No School for Students - Friday, Oct. 4
A message from the principal
Greetings Island Lake Families,
Our community felt the first cooler days on the playground this week, and the changing temps let us know that consistently colder weather is nearing. Our students are also noticing the changing colors of the leaves starting to fall. Coughing and sneezing has been a little more noticeable, typical for this time of year. My own daughters fell victim to this, as two of them stayed home for days last week while they fought off various viruses. It reminds me of the importance of hand washing after walking around the hallways and classrooms high fiving my wolves…
Following the collection of screening data for students in all grade levels, our intervention teams have begun to tailor their learning experiences for select students to support excellence in the classrooms. Our grade level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) have also been grappling with critical questions about student learning that is differentiated to small groups of students with common strengths and lagging skills. While we never lose sight of our Culture of Belonging, our learning spaces are hitting their strides with the rigors of our academic day.
Next week we begin a celebration of National School Lunch Week (October 7-16). As part of our celebration, we are hosting a recipe contest. Elementary students will have the opportunity to submit a recipe for the chance to have their recipe featured on your school's lunch menu. Recipe submission will be accepted October - October 16. Winners will be announced early November! Here is the recipe submission form for students to fill out and give to the Kitchen Manager or the front office.
Another gentle reminder that tomorrow, Friday (10/4/24), is a non-school day for students. I also see in our calendars that Monday (10/14/24), as well as Thursday (10/17/24) and Friday (10/18/24) are non-school days for students.
Have a lovely weekend,
Bill

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Choir is now open for all 4th & 5th students!
All 4th & 5th graders are invited to participate in the Island Lake choir. Mrs. Stromback, Island Lake music teacher, welcomes all interested students without an audition or prior choral experience to join. Instruction focuses on proper vocal technique and learning to sing harmony. Students will have the opportunity to learn about many different styles of music and performance techniques. There will be opportunities to perform with the choir later in the year.
Choir is FREE of charge and will meet on Monday mornings from 8:05-9:05 a.m. Choir will start on Monday, Sept. 30, and will rehearse in the music room (Room 148). Depending on enrollment numbers, an additional class might be added that won’t conflict with band or orchestra.
To join choir, please register here. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Stromback at amanda.stromback@mvpschools.org.
