Peterson's News
10/21-10/25
I am so excited for the Our Party Our Way Fundraiser Celebration on Wednesday!!! I hope everyone goes all out in wearing their Peterson colors and spirit wear! 😀 The weather looks wonderful for Wednesday. Our students will enjoy the inflatable outside. Parents are welcome to come and enjoy! Please note the inflatables will only be for school aged children.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. As part of our social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, Second Step we have been placing a strong emphasis on the importance of kindness and using considerate language. We believe that fostering a culture of kindness and tolerance is crucial for the well-being and growth of our students.
To this end, we kindly ask that you continue these conversations of kindness and tolerance at home. Discuss with your child the impact that their words and actions can have on others, and encourage them to be mindful of using language that is inclusive and respectful.
I know that together, we can cultivate a nurturing and supportive environment where all students feel valued and empowered to be their best selves.
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Our Party Our Way Fundraiser Celebration 10/23
Thank you again to everyone for donating to our school fundraiser! On Wednesday, October 23, students will get to celebrate "Our Party, Our Way"!!
Last Wednesday, all the students received a ballot to vote on how they would like to celebrate their fundraising success! Students voted for one activity (either inflatables or field day) AND for one sweet treat (cupcakes or ice cream).
The winning activity was announced to the students on Friday at school. The celebration will be the inflatables and ice cream!!
Students will enjoy the inflatables at different times throughout the day. The ice cream will be given to the children after lunch and during their recess. As long as the weather cooperates and we can hold the party outdoors, families are welcome to join us at school during their child’s allotted time. It will be an awesome event and so exciting for the students!
We encourage students to wear their favorite Peterson spirit wear or purple and gold that day! Students are welcome to go all out, including their brightest purple or gold, purple hair, fun accessories, etc. for the all school party!
Please let your child’s teacher know if your child cannot participate in the ice cream. We will have popsicles for any students that have a dairy allergy.

Reflections
Thank you to everyone that entered into our fine arts Reflections contest. Our school is submitting 17 entries! Good luck to all that participated!
Teacher Appreciation!
A Teacher appreciation luncheon is happening on October 23rd, and will be one of the first PDAC events for this year. Avani Vaidya and Sandra Sun have planned a special event featuring authentic Chinese and Indian cuisine and cultural artifact displays to share their traditions with teachers, students, and the community. They are looking for both Chinese and Indian dishes for this event and the dishes can be homemade or store bought. If you can donate a dish, please sign up on this signup. Dishes should be dropped off at Peterson on October 23rd between 10am and 10:30am. Please include ingredients on your item at drop off. Thank you!
*Please contact Sandra Sun at sunzhuo83@hotmail.com or Avani Vaidya at avani.vaidya@gmail.com with any questions.
Please bookmark our Peterson PTA website which has information on PTA events, including the 2024/2025 PTA Events Calendar.
Pumpkin Smash
We are excited to invite you to join us for a fun and eco-friendly event—the Pumpkin Smash—on November 2nd from 9 AM to 12 PM! This event is a fantastic opportunity to help our community by composting leftover pumpkins, reducing waste, and promoting sustainability. We need volunteers to assist with the smashing, composting, and ensuring the event runs smoothly. It’s a great way to get involved, support environmental efforts, and have some smashing fun! We hope you can join us for this exciting event. Please sign up if you’re available to lend a hand. Your help would make a big difference!
Students have been hard at work in the garden, helping to clean out the garden beds and plant new seeds for greens, radishes, and kale. Meanwhile, the Kindergarten students had a fun time playing in the soil stations, watering the plants, and even discovering some grubs! It was a day full of hands-on learning and exploration, bringing everyone closer to nature.
Spooktacular Concert!

Safety Concerns
Unfortunately, our community and I continue to witness unsafe driving behavior. We have drivers who are continuing to disobey the crossing guards while students are at or in the crosswalks, drivers who are making u-turns in the middle of Honey Locust, and trying to pick up students from the blacktop off of Honey Locust. Please the safety of all of our students is critically important! I continue to work with our police and district on this issue. I also highly encourage you to fill out the non-emergency form below. We expect our students to follow the expectations, I expect our families to do so too.
Dear Indian Prairie Families,
We recognize that consistent student attendance is crucial for success. The learning opportunities and experiences provided at school are invaluable.
Starting on October 15, you will notice some changes when reporting your child's absence in ParentVUE. Please see below for an image of how the dropdown menu and screen will now appear in both the web version and app version.
You select a reason for the absence from the drop down menu. In the notes section you will provide additional details - when you select sick, please include the symptoms.
In accordance with Section 26-2a of the School Code, valid causes for absence include:
A. Illness, including mental or behavioral health issues;
B. Observance of a religious holiday;
C. Death in the immediate family or a family emergency;
D. Other situations beyond the control of the student, as determined by the Board of Education or nonpublic school administration;
E. Any circumstances that reasonably concern the parent regarding the mental, emotional, or physical health or safety of the student.
Parents are responsible for the daily attendance of their children; however, Illinois School Code does not grant parents the authority to excuse their children from attending classes without valid cause. Every absence is recorded as part of the student’s attendance record and counts toward chronic absenteeism.
"Chronic absence" means absences that total 10% or more of school days of the most recent academic school year, including absences with and without valid cause …”– 105 ILCS 5/26-18. Chronic absences are tracked by the state and are a part of the summative designation on our Illinois School Report Card. Several of our schools earned a reduced rating last year due to the chronic absenteeism data for their school.
Please note vacations, practices/competitions, birthday celebrations, and similar leisure activities are not considered valid causes for absences, and we discourage these types of activities during school hours.
We appreciate your commitment to ensuring that your child(ren) attends school on time every day. If your child must be absent, please continue to report that absence in ParentVue or by calling the attendance line for your school.
Sincerely,
Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Notes from the Nurse
Thank you for all the donations for the nurse's office! However, we are still in need of clothing. As you are preparing for the colder weather and find that your child has outgrown some pants we would love a donation to the office.
We could use:
- boys size pants 6, 7, 8, 10,12 and 14
- girls size pants 7, 8, and 10
Also, if your child has borrowed some clothing from the nurse's office, can you please return the washed items. Thank you so much!
In good health,
Nurse Patti
