LCPS and RRD Event Calendar
We're excited to share the new LCPS and RRD Event Calendar for the 2024-2025 school year! This calendar includes important dates, events, and activities designed to enhance our students' educational experience. Please review it carefully and mark your calendars. We look forward to another fantastic year of learning and community engagement.
This is just an overview for the year. We will continue to share the important dates with times in the section above and more detailed information about events when they are closer.
There may be changes on the calendar throughout the year. We will be sure to update it and put out the changes.
Stay Connected and Informed
Exciting news! LCPS has launched a new app designed to keep families connected and informed with just a tap. The app allows users to conveniently access documents, news updates and emergency notifications in one place. It’s a must-have for students, families and staff, and is available for download from the Google Play or Apple App Store (just search for “Loudoun County Public Schools”). With this mobile-responsive tool, you can receive important updates directly from your school and stay informed on the latest features. The LCPS website and app also offer a centralized feed for all division news, events and announcements, providing a reliable way to stay updated than relying on multiple social media sites.

Reminder
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
As we continue to prioritize safety for all of our students and staff, we want to remind you of some important procedures regarding arrival and dismissal:
Tardy Students: If your student arrives after 7:30 a.m., please ensure you walk them directly into the main office.
Early Dismissals: For the smooth flow of dismissal, please note that no early dismissals will be allowed after 2:00 p.m.
Dismissal Protocols:
- Car Pick-Up: If you are picking up your child in a car, please use the gym side of the building. It is important that you remain in your car and follow staff directions to keep things safe and efficient for everyone.
- Walker Pick-Up: Only parents who walk from their homes (without driving) should pick up their students as walkers. For safety reasons, we discourage parking on the street and collecting your child as a walker.
Your cooperation in following these guidelines helps ensure the safety of all our students during these busy times of the day. Thank you for your continued support!

Monthly Observances and Celebrations for September
National Hispanic American Heritage Month
National Hispanic American Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15-October 15. This month-long celebration is an opportunity to uplift the many ways in which Hispanic and Latino people have contributed uniquely to the history and culture of the United States. Latinos trace their origins to Latin America and other Spanish colonies, both in the Caribbean and in the contemporary United States. These groups include, but are not limited to, Indigenous, Mestizos, Afro-Latinos, and other mixed-race people. Currently representing the largest ethnic minority in the country, Latinos have participated in the creation and growth of this nation well before it was named the United States. Today, Hispanic Americans represent over 60 million people who enrich our nation as entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, entertainers, scientists, public servants, educators and more!
Nearly 20% of LCPS students are Hispanic, and we honor the assets, experiences and culture they bring with them into our classrooms every day, and especially this month.

National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. September is National Suicide Prevention Month – a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by suicide. It’s also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope.

What's the Word with Mr. Burd
Rolling Ridge Community,
As we continue through the school year, I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone of our core values, which guide us in creating a positive and inclusive environment for all:
Respectful: We treat everyone with kindness and consideration, valuing the diversity and uniqueness of our school community. By listening and showing empathy, we help create a space where everyone feels welcome.
Responsible: We take ownership of our actions, decisions, and learning. By holding ourselves accountable, we set an example and make choices that positively impact our school and community.
Determined: We face challenges with perseverance and a growth mindset, knowing that effort and resilience lead to success. We are committed to giving our best in all that we do, no matter how difficult.
Please take a moment to remind your children of these important values, as together, we work toward building a strong, supportive school community.
Thank you for your continued partnership!
"RRD is the Place to Be!"
Sincerely,
Mr. Burd
