Cedar Grove Friday Flash
January 10, 2025
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday and winter break, and it was so nice to welcome your children back to school, even if only for a few days until the snow came to our area! We have a lot of wonderful events that are coming up, and we hope you will attend some or all of them.
Our Readathon will begin on January 14 and end on January 28. Please view the information below for additional details. In addition, our Read Aloud night is on January 23, and we hope that you and your children can come and enjoy hearing the stories that will be shared. There will be two sessions; the first session is from 6:00-6:25 and the second session will be 6:30-7:00.
Also on January 14, our Winter Concert, featuring our 5th grade chorus students, will take place at Clarksburg High School (CHS) at 7:00 p.m. The 5th grade chorus students should report at 6:15 p.m. to CHS and wear concert black and white. Due to the winter break and snow days, our 5th grade band and orchestra students have not had the opportunity to rehearse in nearly a month. For that reason, 5th grade band and orchestra will NOT perform at this concert, so that they have more time to practice together and be fully ready to perform for you at another time.
For our composting update, we are pleased to share that during the month of December, students were able to divert 615 pounds of food waste from landfills and incinerators. We appreciate the work that students are doing in supporting our Green School efforts!
Have a wonderful weekend!

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
Here's a sneak peek into our January Media Monthly — we'll have a short week when we return from Winter Break and then a full week thereafter. But we're starting the new year with a lot of events as soon as we return from Winter break! All book club permission slips are due today. Our first meeting will be on January 21. At this point, I only have four students signed up for the music cafe. This event is always such a crowd pleaser for our students. Please Sign up for the 2025 music cafe! Our first meeting will be on Monday, January 13. Our Readathon will begin on January 14. This is a huge event for our school that the PTA and I plan together, and it is a lot of fun! Read Aloud Night is part of this event, so save the date: January 23, 2025! Have a wonderful winter break, encourage your students to curl up and read a good book and also to play outside!
