Front Office Remodel
We are happy to share with you that our front entrance remodel is nearly complete and the front entrance will soon be back in use. With the more secure entrance we hope to have an easier plan in place for students picking up their drop offs from parents.
Drop off guidelines are as follows.
Only parents/guardians can deliver lunch for their child.
Students will not be called out of class to pick up their delivery.
All deliveries from parents should be labeled and left on the table in the foyer where their child can pick it up during the next passing period.
No deliveries will be allowed from anyone other than a parent/guardian.
Safety Procedures
We have started the process of practicing emergency drills. On August 26 we had our severe weather drill, August 29 we had our first fire drill, and Aug. 30 we had our first hold in place drill. Over the next month we will have additional fire drills. By law schools are required to participate in emergency drills every school year.
Sandwich High School values a safe educational environment for our staff and students. No persons other than the parent/guardian, parent designee, legal guardian, government officials, those pursuant to warrant or subpoena, or school personnel will have permission to see a student during school hours without being verified by showing a drivers license/state issued ID.
All visitors or venders who may need to go beyond the office are required to display a visitors’ badge during their stay and must provide a driver's license/state issued ID to be scanned in order to generate a name badge/ lanyard. Visitors must be escorted at all times while in the building.

Late Start Wednesdays
As a reminder beginning August 21, the high school will alter start times on Wednesday mornings only. The first period of the day will begin at 8:45 AM, but it does not need to affect your daily routine. Busing will be provided at the regular time and all students can come to the high school. Students that come to school at their scheduled bus time, will be expected to remain in the cafeteria area. They will have the opportunity to work on homework in one area and gather with friends in the other area. This will give them time to study and or socialize. IVVC classes will start at the regular time of 8:00 AM and Agriculture classes at Somonauk will also start at regular time.
New to the SHS 2425 Schedule is FLEX Time
For the upcoming school year, SHS has introduced several initiatives to support students' academic and social emotional needs. One significant addition is the implementation of FLEX time, available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On late start Wednesdays or early dismissal days, there will be NO FLEX time.
FLEX time is a dedicated period during the school day designed to:
Provide targeted reteaching to meet individual students' specific needs, ensuring they receive timely and appropriate support to succeed.
Address learning gaps by helping students overcome barriers before they become more significant.
Engage with students more effectively.
Offer opportunities for test and quiz make-up.
Please note that FLEX time is not intended for students to leave campus. This new initiative will begin on Thursday, August 15.
Communication from the High School
Sandwich High School will generally email a monthly newsletter. The purpose of this communication will be to highlight the latest things going on at school while also keeping you up to date on future events.
Click here to follow SHS on Facebook.
The Sandwich High School instagram page can be located by searching Sandwich High School District 430.
Student Drivers
Students are not allowed to drive and park at school unless they have a parking permit. Parking passes cost $95 for the 2024-2025 school year.
The parking lot will be monitored for any cars parked without a school purchased tag in the window. Students parking without a parking permit will be assessed a fee.
Reminders
If dropping off a student at Sandwich High School, students who are walking through the parking lot have the right away.
Student drop off and pick up is at the back of the school (door #1). Also, when a stop arm is out on a bus, it is illegal to pass it. Click here for information.
Phones and Book Bags
While phones and book bags are permitted at SHS, each teacher has a unique classroom management system. Phones and book bags in the classroom will be at the discretion of the individual teacher.
Athletic Physicals
Any athlete in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade will need to submit a completed sports physical prior to the first day of practice. For freshmen athletes, the completed school physical will cover any athletics they participate in for one year.
Any questions regarding sports physicals please reach out to SHS Athletic Director Ian Stewart at istewart@sandwich430.org. Should you have any questions regarding the freshman physical or the meningococcal vaccination, reach out to SHS Nurse Kim Gonzalez at kgonzalez@sandwich430.org.
