Welcome Back Tigers,
I trust that you and your Tigers enjoyed a rejuvenating spring break and are now geared up for the final leg of this school year. It's incredible how quickly we're approaching the end, with just over forty days left. This is a crucial period for all students as they solidify and expand upon the concepts they've learned throughout the year. Additionally, students in grades 3-5 will be undergoing state assessments starting in the next couple of weeks, emphasizing the importance of consistent attendance. Therefore, I kindly request that appointments, including doctor visits, be scheduled outside of school hours, and that absences be minimized to ensure maximum learning opportunities.
Regarding our impending move and program restructuring, I'm truly appreciative of the support extended by many of you to help packing. If you're inclined to assist, kindly indicate your interest by signing up in the office and or reaching out to teachers. Our plan is to commence packing items from areas outside classrooms during the last two weeks of school.
I'm thrilled to announce this year's Employees of the Year: Maestra Armendariz, our wonderful kindergarten teacher, and Marily Ortiz, our dedicated family liaison. Both of these exceptional individuals have been recognized by their peers for their remarkable contributions to our school community, consistently exceeding expectations. Notably, Marily Ortiz's status as an alumna of our dual immersion program serves as a poignant reminder of the program's profound impact on our students' lives.
I look forward to seeing our Tigers back in school this week. Please see below our Literacy Week's events. We hope all our students can participate in the dress up days!
IReady Celebration
Before going on break all students and classes that met their IReady Diagnostic growth goals celebrated their achievement with an extra recess. It was a lot of fun for all!
We are ready to celebrate Literacy Week and DEAR Day This Week!
Georgia Brown Elementary will be celebrating Literacy the week of April 8th -12th. During that week we will celebrate reading every day with special announcements and dress up days. One of our most cherished traditions at Georgia Brown is our Drop Everything and Read day. This year our "DEAR" Day is Thursday April 11th. On this day we are celebrating reading all day long. I would like to invite you to come to our school and read a book or two to one of our classrooms.
We have reserved the morning from 8:15 am-12:00 pm to have community members, parents and grandparents read to our students. Each reading session is approximately 20 minutes. We have 23 classrooms full of students that are ready to listen.
You are welcome to indicate a particular classroom or grade level to read to. Feel free to bring your favorite read aloud book or I can help you select a book from our school library.
If you are interested in reading for our DEAR day, please send an email to Mrs. Cagliero, our librarian, with a time that works best for you between 8:15 and 12:00pm. tcagliero@pasoschools.org
Thank you and Happy Reading,
Tracy Cagliero
