Cooking with NOM
We have an amazing partnership with the Middlebury College Club NOM (Nutrition, Outreach, and Mentoring). Each month, they work with us in different ways to expose students - and families - to the harvest of the month.
This month, they are doing a virtual cooking class on 10/21 at 5.30pm, making stuffed bell peppers and apple crisp. YUM! You can sign up your family for this and get a free meal kit for the meal.
Then, all you do is log on (an email will be sent separately with the link) and cook alongside the college students. It is super fun, so I hope you will sign up below!
Unity Day - 10/16
On Wednesday October 16th, Mary Hogan will be recognizing Unity Day by wearing orange.
Unity Day is a day to celebrate community through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. It is a day when we, as a community, work to recognize that together with our differences we are stronger. It is only one day and this is ongoing work, but it is also one of many moments this year when we recognize the importance of acceptance, inclusion, and kindness and prevent bullying.
Lice Facts - Please read
Did you know...?
- Head lice move by crawling, they do not hop or fly.
- Lice are spread by direct close contact with the head of another person who has lice. Spread by contact with clothing, hats/scarves/coats, and personal items like combs, brushes, towels is uncommon but possible.
- Personal hygiene or cleanliness at home/school has NOTHING to do with getting head lice.
- They have three forms - Egg (nit), nymph, and adult. None of the forms live very long away from a human head!
- SYMPTOMS: Tickling feeling of something moving in the hair, itching, difficulty sleeping (lice are more active in the dark!), and sores on the head from scratching.
- You can't get lice from your pets.
- Lice do not transmit disease!
- You don't have to leave school if you have head lice.
- You can use over the counter treatments, or better yet, your doctor can prescribe a treatment that tends to be even more effective.
- Your school nurse is a lice expert! (So are your local pediatric providers and their nurses!)
Getting head lice is a pain, but it can't make you sick, it doesn't mean you don't stay clean, and treatments are widely available. Call your school nurse or doctor if you need support, have concerns or questions, or want to know more.
