📣 WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW FOR THIS WEEK 📣
SWWC STUDENTS AT WORK!
Welding Students Shine at WCC's High School Welding Invitational
Mr. Butt's Welding students recently showcased their talents at the Washtenaw Community College (WCC) High School Welding Invitational. This prestigious event brought together top performers from across the county, allowing our students to test their skills against some of the best young welders in the area. With over 100 students and 10 different high schools competing, some of our own students were on the top of the podium. Please congratulate Kyle Zhan from Saline for taking 1st place in beginner GMAW (MIG) welding, Malic Magnusson form Manchester for taking 2nd place in advanced GTAW (TIG) welding, and Brady Sattler for 4th place overall in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding. Congrats to all of the SWWC dedicated competitors that came home with more experience and determination for the next competition.
DECA Volunteers at Saline's Craft Show!
Health Science students experience what it feels like to age!
Students in Mrs. Welt's Health Science course participated in stations to better understand the needs of patients. From wearing sunglasses and trying to thread a needle and wearing gloves when trying to load a medicine box (representing tactile loss), to wearing arthritic hand braces that causes joint pain and stiffness and trying to paint a coloring page. All of these are excellent activities to teach empathy and awareness.
SWWC Student Council Reps Tour CTE Programs!
SWWC Student Council students are preparing for the upcoming recruiting period. Mrs. Visel is preparing the group to provide tours to 10th graders who are looking to enroll in a SWWC program.
What is the SWWC?
The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 1000 students participate in our state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career.
On behalf of the thirty-eight SWWC staff members, we welcome you to the 24/25 school year! Thank you for enrolling in one of our twenty-three Career and Technical Education classes offered at Chelsea, Dexter, and Saline High School, as well as our off-site locations specifically for Cosmetology and Building Trades. We are excited to have you in the consortium!
If you have any questions, please contact Kara Stemmer, the Director of the SWWC at 734.401.4371 or via email at stemmkar@salineschools.org.
