Social Studies
Environmental Science
In Prekindergarten, the children will explore shapes in art during November art classes. One of the activities includes making circles while printing with pumpkins and gourds cut in half. Other geometric shapes, like squares and triangles, will be cut and glued for collages. How many geometric shapes can you find in your home? Do you know what your child's favorite shape is?
Drama
Pre-K had an amazing Halloween creating a witches’ brew. Students got to suggest scary things to put into a big black cauldron, to mix up and then act. Some out of the box favorites were: shadows, lightening, broomsticks, witches’ hats, eyeballs, and Kylo Ren (from Star Wars, because he’s a bad guy), along with the usual ghosts, black cats, spiders, pumpkins, and vampires. See how many Halloween things your child can think of to put into the pot, or how many Thanksgiving things that can be stuffed in the turkey (that’s a game for later this month).
Innovation
Pre-K students will be collaborating to design and create letters using the recyclable materials in the Maker Space. They will cooperate in teams to decide how to best create their assigned letter and then explore light and shadows as they attempt to have the shadow of their letter projected onto the wall.
Woodworking
Students have been learning the proper way to use many different tools. So far they have used tape measures, screwdrivers, sanding blacks and hammers. Over the next couple weeks, they will use these skills to build a climbing structure for the goats!
