Cornerstone June Update
Wrapping up the first year of Cornerstone
Kindergarten Musical
Kindergarteners at Lintott Elementary learned all about growing up strong and healthy last month when they performed the musical, "Happy Healthy Musical Me." Then following the performance, every family went home with specially designed learning kits provided by Cornerstone staff members.
Using the district's music curriculum, Lintott music teachers crafted a special musical to help students learn about healthy living. Mrs. Bezon and Mrs. Guiliani used the Quavers program to help students learn the music and practice for the performance.
As a follow-up to the musical, Cornerstone staff created a learning kit for every student and their family. Each kit included a book called Everyone Eats. This book helps readers learn about healthy foods that animals eat. The kits also included several items for the student to taste. Students tried doughnuts, apple juice, mushrooms, and seaweed. Along with the "adventure bites" they received a graph that they could track which foods they liked and which ones they didn't. You can see from the photos above, some foods were "thumbs up," and some were clearly, "thumbs down."
In addition, the learning kits included a "science experiment" with Glo Germ Gel. Kids put the gel on their hands and use a black light to see the simulated germs. Afterwards they wash their hands and shine the black light on them again, if they still see glowing marks on their hands, it means they can practice better hand washing.
The collaboration between Lintott staff and the Cornerstone staff resulted in another great experience for ALL students and families!
Summer Hours
We are pleased to report that the Cornerstone Program will remain in place for the 2024-25 school year thanks to an extension of our Regional Challenge Grant from Washington Student Achievement Council!
As the school year comes to a close, our office hours will remain the same. Typically we invite families to drop in to see us in the mornings, and call to make an appointment for the afternoon. However, because of a few vacation days we plan to take this summer, we recommend that you always CALL FIRST before coming to visit.

On July 24 and 25 we are hosting the first ever Kindergarten Camp. This event is designed to help young learners practice the skills necessary for a successful first year at school. Volunteers will help campers practice large motor skills like running and skipping. Campers will also practice fine motor skills like coloring an cutting with scissors.
We have 50 spots available for this event. Campers will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Our camp will take place at Lintott Elementary School from 10 am to 12 noon each day. Campers will receive take-home learning kits with activities to do at home. Parents who participate in the take-home activities can earn an entry for "staycation" raffle prizes!!
We are looking for volunteers to help make this big even a huge success. Call the Cornerstone staff for more information at 360-219-7267.
