AACV Newsletter
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Members of Administrators Association Chula Vista,
As we embark on a new school year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to each of you for a successful and fulfilling year ahead. Your dedication and hard work are the backbone of our educational community, and I am truly grateful or to work with colleagues with such unwavering commitment to our students and schools. I am hopeful that we are beginning to see some of the clarity that AACV has been advcocating for over the past few months and hope to see those structures continue so that we can work effectively and efficiently.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have stepped up to take positions on our board and bargaining team. Your leadership and service are invaluable to our collective success.
If you ever have any concerns or issues that you would like me to be aware of, do not hesitate to reach out to me.. Our strength lies in our unity and in open communication. Each month, Donis and I meet with Dr. Reyes to address concerns and bring items to his attention and if there is something that you feel is important for me to know, please reach out.
Additionally, we are currently seeking a dedicated individual to serve as the chair for our Legislative Affairs and Political Action (LAPA) Committee. If you are interested in this important role, please let me know by email or text. As chair you would then work towards finding another 1-2 people to join you on the LAPA Committee.
Wishing you all a fantastic start to the school year!
Warm regards,
Theresa Corona
President, Administrators Association Chula Vista
AACV HAS ITS’ FIRST COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT!
The AACV Membership and the CVESD Board of Education have both ratified the first AACV Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)! The District will be printing and sending out hard copies of the CBA. Attached is an electronic copy for your records. In each AACV newsletter, we will be addressing a different CBA fact called “Know Your Contract.” Here is the first:
Know Your Contract! (We suggest you go to the appropriate article/section of the contract and then read below.)
Article 7: Hours and Work Academic/Work Year Calendar
Section 2: Work Hours
Section 3: Partial Day Absence
Section 2 recognizes that the responsibilities of Principals and AP’s do not lend themselves to a defined workday or work week of rigidly established length and states that the hours of the administrator should be reasonable. This means that there are not established work hours. The Principal and/or AP is expected to work reasonable hours and may set their reporting and departing times according to the needs of the site.
Section 3 addresses cases where a Principal or AP is off campus for a life event (see examples in the contract) for two hours or less. No longer are unit members required to charge leaves of two hours or less to any type of leave balance. The Area Assistant Superintendent should be notified of the absence.
Article 6: Unit Member Rights
Section 1: Right to Representation
Section 1 reiterates the fact that Principals and AP’s have the right to have union representation at any meeting or conference that could or may (emphasis added) lead to disciplinary action. This means ANY meeting or conference regarding your employment, matters affecting your employment, investigatory meetings, etc. When in doubt, contact the UASC Executive Director, Donis Coronel.
