Manitou Springs High School
Mustang News - October 8th, 2021
From the Principal
It has been a productive and successful week at MSHS. Our students had the opportunity to attend a college fair featuring 30+ schools from within Colorado and from outside of the state. It was encouraging and inspiring to see the students interacting with college reps and exploring educational pathways. What a perfect reminder of why we are here doing what we do...to help students prepare for their futures and find the roads best suited to them. The future looks bright for the Mustangs!

PSAT Information
Dear Mustang Students and Families,
On Wednesday, October 13, 2020, the high school will have testing for 9th -11th graders starting at 8:05 am (this will NOT be a late start). Seniors will NOT have school on October 13. 9th grade will take the PSAT 8/9, while Grades 10 and 11 will take the PSAT/NMSQT. Testing for students without accommodations will conclude at 12:00, followed by lunch for students from 12:00-12:30 pm, and students will be dismissed at 12:30. Families may pick up students anytime after testing concludes at 12:00 pm. Please be aware that due to a bus driver shortage, we will not be able to offer buses until 3:20, but we will have supervision available for students who cannot be picked up until then.
The PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT exams give students, families, and our school information regarding where students are in meeting college readiness benchmarks. Additionally, the PSAT NMSQT enables 11th grade students to be eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholarship.
We believe and research shows that taking PSAT aligned tests in preparation for the SAT decreases stress and increases readiness and scores for students. As part of our college and career readiness work at MSHS, students will continue to take these tests in the fall and spring until April of their junior year when they will take the SAT. The SAT is used by colleges all over the country for college acceptance, and at times placement into courses. Furthermore, if students earn qualifying scores for both Math and English, the SAT can satisfy the testing element of Colorado’s Menu of Graduation Requirements (which students need to earn in addition to the minimum number of credits).
Thank you in advance for your partnership on this matter and please reach out to us if you have any further questions.
Best,
MSHS Team
