From the Desk of the Principal
Hello HHS Families,
HHS celebrated an incredible Homecoming week with fun and exciting activities! From the spirited Powder Puff game to the fantastic community turnout at the parade to having over 700 students at our dance, the theme of the “Wonderful World of Disney” truly brought everyone together in a magical way. Seeing students, staff, and families embrace the theme and showcase their creativity was awesome!
I would also like to sincerely thank all the families who attended our Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday. Your involvement is critical to our students’ success, and it was wonderful to connect with so many of you. Additionally, I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our College and Career Night. With over 70 representatives from the trades, careers, and colleges, our students had so many opportunities to get more information and insight for their post-secondary lives! These events are vital for supporting our students' futures, and it was great to see such enthusiasm and engagement from our community.
Have a great weekend, and Go Bronchos!!!

HHS Marching Band #1
The marching band started its competitive season by taking 1st place at the Troy Athens Invitational, winning caption awards for best music and best color guard. This was a big win for our program as we placed above many of our rival schools, including Fenton, Brandon, Kettering, SCS Lakeview, Roseville, and Livonia Franklin.

Riley qualified early this season and was seeded in 21st place. She dove really well over the 3.5 hour competition and improved to finish in 17th place. She is looking forward to the end of her season and returning to the State meet in late November again this year.

What We've Been Up to at HHS
Post Secondary Event
On Wednesday, October 16th, Holly Area Schools hosted the first Post Secondary Event! This event combined the annual College Night and Professional Trades and Apprenticeship Night!
The event hosted over 70 exhibitors from colleges, trade schools, military, and businesses. The event also hosted a College 101 session providing valuable college planning resources.
The event brought in over 275 students and parents to visit the many post secondary opportunities.
The Holly High School Career and Tech Ed Teachers also hosted their annual Advisory Committees which included representatives from business, college, students, teachers and parents. The purpose of this advisory committee is to have dialogue around current curriculum and the current needs in business and industry. If you are interested in participating in one of these committees or in our Annual Post Secondary Night, please contact Jennifer Fettig at jennifer.fettig@hask12.org
Spanish 3 & 4
After reading and exploring Pablo Neruda's "Oda al tomate" (Ode to the tomato), Spanish 3 & 4 students wrote their own "Oda" about something they are passionate about. Topics ranged from cars, sports, seasons, to cookies and elevators! Students then shared their poems and did a "Best of the Best" vote. Angela Walker won as the fan favorite for "Oda a la música"! ¡Felicitaciones!
Algebra 2 Data Science
Students collected data on a topic of their choice, recorded it, analyzed it and displayed their findings in a creative way.
Child Development Class
Child Development class "performed" a mock c-section in class while discussing labor and delivery!
Nutrition Class
On October 15th, 2024, thirty eight students from Mrs. Hunt’s Nutrition classes at Holly High School attended an educational and interactive field trip to Clarkston Family Farm. The purpose of the trip was to enhance the students' understanding of nutrition, agriculture, and potential careers in these fields.
The students participated in hands-on learning by rotating through four different stations at the farm. At one station, they made fresh salsa, learning about the science behind the process. At another station, they tasted different varieties of apples with a candy apple bar, made applesauce, and gained insights into the health benefits of locally grown produce. The third station offered a chance to visit and interact with the farm animals and how they are part of the farm ecosystem, while a fourth station included a relaxing hayride to Bittersweet Farm, a sister property, where the students learned about sustainable farming practices. The day concluded with a delicious taco bar featuring farm-to-table ingredients, all sourced locally.
Overall, the trip provided an engaging experience, blending practical learning with fun activities, and offering the students a deeper appreciation for agriculture, nutrition, and the many career opportunities in these industries. Thank you to Mrs. Barth, Mr. Lindsay, and Mrs. Fettig for volunteering your time and chaperoning.
Leadership/NHS
Twenty Holly Leadership and National Honor Society leaders traveled to Frankenmuth today to hone in their leadership skills and learn new ones! Mr. Kivari, Leadership Advisor, and Mrs. Voegel, NHS Advisor, loved watching the students in action, as they got to learn from student leaders from around the state. The students worked together at the beginning of the day to identify needs for our school. Then, they attended three different break-out sessions which provided hands-on lessons over the topics of Group Process, Communication, Decision Making, Citizenship, Leadership Styles, and Organizational and Managerial Skills. The students will work with their fellow peers and advisors in the coming weeks to bring their new experiences, knowledge, and ideas to our Holly High School programming, activities, and events.
Physics
In Mr. Kivari's physics class, students are learning about motion, acceleration, friction, and energy by building cars from cardboard!
