St. Luke Weekly SMORE
October 18, 2021
Today is the Feast Day of St. Luke the Evangelist
Please join us in our first school mass acknowledging the Feast day of St. Luke tomorrow at 1:50pm using this google link.
St. Luke was born in Syria. He was trained to be a doctor. He was also a very talented artist who loved to paint. His favourite subjects to paint were pictures of Mary and Jesus. St. Luke was the writer of the Third Gospel in the Bible. He also wrote the Acts of the Apostles. He is the only non Jewish writer of the Holy Scriptures.
He is considered to be an important historian. Although he was not alive at the same time that Jesus was, St. Luke very carefully gathered information and stories from those who had followed or listened to Jesus in order to write his Gospel. His intention was to proclaim and to persuade.
St. Luke's gospel is the gospel of the poor and of social justice. He wanted us to understand how important it is to take care of people who are less fortunate and in need. St. Luke was a man who loved the poor. He wanted the door to God's kingdom to be opened to everyone.
He wants us to understand and to know that God had unending and unconditional love for all of us, and that there is hope in God’s mercy for everyone. This message of compassion for others is a strong message in St. Luke’s gospel.
St. Luke is often shown with an ox or a calf, because these are the symbols of sacrifice - the sacrifice Jesus made for all of the world.
Almighty God, you inspired Your servant St. Luke the Evangelist and Doctor to set forth in the gospel the love and the healing power of your Son.
In his Gospel he helped us to understand Jesus’ humanity, he also showed the divinity of Jesus and how he loved and cared for all people.
May St. Luke pray for us that we may deepen our understanding of the gospel and grow in our love for Jesus.
May his prayers enable our St. Luke school community to follow Your way and plan for us.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
Amen.
OWL library is starting to look very spooky these days. The students really think it’s a HOOT to see everything decorated and PECK out a Halloween book to enjoy.
Mrs Scoggins loves this spooky season!
HALLOWEEN
Halloween is approaching and is a very fun time of year for children. A couple of reminders as you begin preparing for Halloween.
Students are invited to come to school in their costumes on Halloween.
Students who are dressing up are asked to keep costumes school appropriate and leave weapons at home. Being proactive can help all of us to avoid uncomfortable situations at school and can help us ensure that Halloween is a time where all students feel safe and honoured.
Masks will still need to be worn so please take this into consideration when planning your child’s costumes.
Our leadership students are busy preparing Halloween activities for students during the afternoon on Friday, October 29th.
As part of our healthy school focus we ask families to refrain from sending any food items.
The school will be putting together a special Nutritional Halloween snack which will be handed out to all students.
Our Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 4 students will be participating in a virtual Halloween costume party to show their spooktacular costumes.
