Hello Owls,

It is an exciting time as our Owls begin the Spring 2025 semester, especially for the Class of 2025! Here are some key points to consider:

• CCCC Grades: All grades from the fall semester have been received and will be entered into PowerSchool by Ms. Peterson by Monday. Report cards and new transcripts should be ready this upcoming week.
• Class Schedules: Students should check Self Service in MyCCCC for their college classes and schedules. Students need to log in to Blackboard on the first day of class to ensure all credentials are in place.
• Seminar Schedules: Juniors and Seniors should log in to Teams to see their respective seminar schedules.
• Textbooks: Most CCCC textbooks are available online through Blackboard. If a physical textbook is needed, students must check with the OECHS office first. If we do not have the book on hand, students will visit the CCCC Bookstore with their CCCC ID. The cost will be charged to OECHS, and students should bring the receipt to Ms. Peterson.
• Prom Committee Meeting: Our next Prom Committee meeting will be in R105 (The Big Room) on January 6th at 5:30 pm. We hope to see you there!
• SGA Winter Dance: Details can be found in the flyer below and students need to purchase tickets within the next few days! Time is running out!
• SAT Volunteer Hours: SAT volunteer hours need to be turned in this month for the Class of 2025. All other students should turn in their hours each semester.

During the Governor's emergency declaration during the pandemic, many rules, and regulations were waived. Now many of those same regulations have returned. One of those deals with high school GPAs, driving permits, and drivers licenses.

"North Carolina House Bill 769 became effective December 1, 1997 and reflects a coordinated statewide effort to motivate and encourage students to complete high school. This legislation requires that a student's driving permit or license be revoked if a student is unable to maintain adequate progress or drops out of school. Adequate progress is defined as passing 70% of all courses and is determined by first semester grades and second semester grades for schools on block scheduling. For schools on a traditional six-period day schedule, grades are determined by first semester grades and end-of-year grades."

Students need to maintain "adequate progress" to remain eligible for permits and licenses while in high school. Each semester, we are to notify students (and the district) when any students are not making adequate progress at the end of a semester/year. Students will then have to earn back the ability to have a permit or license after the next semester's grades are complete (and pay $50 to the DMV to have their permit or license reinstated). Bottom line: Keep your grades up in your high school and college classes or you will lose your driver's permit or license!
