Parent Update

April 20, 2025
We have an amazing energy focused on learning in our schools this month. One of the coolest things has been our 1st grade chicken hatching learning experience. This is our first time doing this in a long while and students are quite excited to see the growth each day. Students are also actively creating new works in preparation for Wednesday's showcase night. The theme is "Unmasking Our Superpowers." The theme speaks to how our students find new skills and talents within themselves thanks to the opportunities created and facilitated by our fantastic staff. All week will have spirit week activities including Monday - dress celebrating your favorite sports team, Tuesday - crazy sock day, Wednesday - dress as your favorite superhero, Thursday - comfy pajama day, and Friday is a color day with PreK & Kindergarten in red, 1st grade in White, 2nd grade in yellow, 3rd grade in green, 4th grade in blue, 5th grade in purple and Middle School in Black. Concurrently, the spring book fair will be taking place and our showcase night on Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8pm should be phenomenal.
This week we also began our Middle School Track season with the students first meet at Benjamin. This was a first experience for many of our participants. The students ran well and learned a lot. Our Boys Volleyball team completed their regular season with a tough loss to a skilled Clapham team. The boys will have their playoffs next week with a tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Clapham school with a matchup against Kingswood Academy at 4:30pm with the semifinal game at the conclusion of their first match against Clapham. If the team continues to win, they will play Tuesday at Calvary Christian School at 6:30pm for the championship.
Our Student Leadership Team has begun collecting gently-used shoes to support Denise Zeman's Kicks for Kids. Any kind of shoe can be donated as long as it is gently used. Denise Zeman was a beloved PE teacher at Winfield who passed away in 2017. The Central gym was named in her honor. A group of retired Winfield teachers, along with Denise's family, have an annual fundraiser in honor her memory. Donated shoes get turned into cash which is used to buy new shoes for local students of need. Collections will be occurring between April 21st and May 30th.

Please reach out to Mrs. Hernandez (nhernadez@winfield34.org or 630-909-4901) with questions or to schedule an appointment. Here is information on the screening and on our preschool program.
