Principal's Message
Hello,
On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Decatur High School JROTC Bulldog Battalion will conduct the Annual 9/11 Ceremony. This special event serves as a reminder of the events of September 11, 2001, and a remembrance of those who lost their lives. To honor the victims of 9/11, the JROTC celebrates a DHS teacher, a DHS student, and City of Decatur First Responders who exhibit leadership and service to the community. I recall being in my planning period preparing for my class at Columbia High School that day and a colleague saying to me that the World Trade Center was struck by a plane. I had students with family members in New York that they could not reach for hours and which made me realize the universal impact of that day. I would encourage you to have a conversation to discuss your perspective of that day with your DHS student.
Our homecoming activities will KICKOFF on Sunday, September 8 with a marshmallow roast from 6 pm-8 pm for students to come out and celebrate. Please see the list of activities below that our PTSA (please join the PTSA) and Student Government Association have scheduled to show our school spirit and prepare us to defeat Chamblee High School on September 13. We will be sending out some special instructions for parents to review with their students to ensure that our students have the knowledge to make good decisions and can attend the game and dance if they choose to participate. Please review this information with your student so that you can support them in the decision-making process.
Sincerely,
Duane Sprull, Ed.D.
Go Bulldogs!

PreP Rally Teen Talk
DeKalb Public Health is partnering with Decatur Housing Authority to host PreP Rally Teen Talk on September 9 from 5-7 p.m. One in five new HIV cases are among people ages 13-24. Our goal is to help youth improve their knowledge and skills related to reducing risky behaviors and effective preventive strategies to reduce the contraction of HIV/STIs.
Our program will feature a talk with a certified health educator and a safe space for students to ask questions and have open discussions. We will incorporate games, food, and giveaways, including a party bus experience for Homecoming. We are asking educators and community leaders that work with our youth to share this event and encourage attendance. You can find additional information about the event at preprally.rsvpify.com.
