We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Monday is Instructional day #17 of 86, as such we are now 20% of the way through semester 2 for non-diploma courses. Students are required to check in and meet with their instructor(s) weekly. It is recommended that multiple check ins occur each week to ensure successful completion of academic course work. Students not adhering to the weekly check in schedule may be removed from the course.

Returning Student Registration ends February 28
EIPS returning student registration process to confirm student registrations for the 2023-24 school year ends Tuesday, February 28. Families of all current students must complete the process to confirm the school their child plans to attend in the 2023-24 school year. Parent Teacher Conferences (March)
In-person Conferences are scheduled for the following times:
Sherwood Park and Vegreville campuses Tuesday, March 7 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Fort Saskatchewan campus Wednesday, March 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Families are asked to book appointments in advance. Please CLICK HERE to book your interview appointment or use the attached QR Code. Our next set of Conferences are scheduled for April 25 & 26. We look forward to meeting with you!
Alberta Education Assurance Survey
Alberta Education is surveying teachers, students and families through its annual Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) Survey. Alberta Education conducts the survey to gather information about the quality of education provided by Alberta schools and school authorities. The survey looks at various measures such as education quality, citizenship, family involvement, engagement levels, school climate and student wellness.
In speaking with Alberta Education, parents may contact them directly at EDC.SystemAssurance@gov.ab.ca or by telephone at 780-643-9193 (dial 310-0000 then the number for toll-free connection in Alberta) to request a Random Access Code to complete the online survey for any grade level.
Parents need to indicate to them:
- Name of the school (Next Step -Sherwood Park)
- Name of the school board (so we can be sure we have the correct school) Elk Island Public Schools
- Grade of the student (11)
Parents do not need to tell them the name of the student or provide any other personal information.
We hope that you may be able to assist us in gathering data and request a Random Access Code to complete the survey prior to March 17. The annual Alberta Education Assurance Survey data is our report card on the quality of education provided. If you have questions regarding the survey please connect with us.

Grad 2023 Information
Next Step three campus Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday June 9, 2023 at the Shell Theatre, (DOW Centre) Fort Saskatchewan. Tickets will be available at no cost to families. Each graduate will be able to receive up to 8 tickets (not including graduate). Students will receive their graduation gown, cap, tassel and stole one week prior to the graduation ceremonies. Students keep their cap, tassel and stole.

There is no cost to students for setting up and taking Grad portraits

Our next hybrid meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15 in Sherwood Park. We hope you can join us in-person or virtually. Meeting starts at 6 p.m. Regular attendance is not required. EIPS Annual Feedback Surveys
The Division wants to hear from you! All EIPS families, staff and grades 9 and 12 students will be invited to share their thoughts by completing the 2023 EIPS Annual Feedback Survey—open from March 1-23. The survey gauges the Division’s progress toward meeting the priorities, goals and outcomes outlined in the Division’s EIPS Four-Year Education Plan and helps guide future decision-making.
Empowering diversity and inclusion in the trades
NAIT recognizes that Indigenous peoples, Black and racialized communities, newcomers, women, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities are underrepresented in the trades.
Next in Trades is a free event series that encourages and empowers people aged 16 and up from all backgrounds and abilities to explore careers in the skilled trades industry. As a leading skilled trades training and education provider, NAIT provides training and mentorship to prepare you to succeed in the trades. Explore your potential and discover a career that works for you in the skilled trades. Participants will take part in four 45-minute workshops throughout the day.
