Parent and Community Engagement at Truitt Middle School
Look for our newsletter at the beginning of each week for family resources, support, and information to help your family throughout the 2024-2025 school year.
A WORD FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, DR. WILLIAMS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I’m writing to share some wonderful opportunities for you and your child to get involved in our campus community and to remind you of an important upcoming holiday. Our campus is buzzing with activities, clubs, and sports that not only enrich our students’ experiences but also strengthen our community. Whether your child is on a sports team, participating in the drama club, or exploring STEM through our robotics classes, there’s something for everyone.
We encourage parents to join us as volunteers, chaperones, or supportive spectators. Your presence makes a big difference! Upcoming opportunities include:
Winter Sports Season: Come cheer on our basketball and baseball teams! Game schedules are posted on our school website.
Multicultural Festival: We’re gearing up for our multicultural festival and Black History Show. Parent volunteers are needed to help with setup, design, and costumes.
Very Important Parents (VIP): We are looking for active members to help organize events and fundraisers that directly benefit our students.
Please sign-up here to volunteer. Also see the newsletter thread below for a full list of activities and ways to get involved. Together, we can create an environment where every student thrives!
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This holiday provides an opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of equality, service, and community. We encourage families to use this day to engage in meaningful conversations or participate in local events honoring his memory.
Supporting Our Students Your support means the world to us and to your children. Research shows that students perform better academically and socially when their parents are actively involved in their education. Whether it’s attending an event, volunteering, or simply staying informed, your engagement matters.
Let’s make this semester one filled with growth, joy, and connection. If you have any questions or ideas for ways to get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our community Liaison Dr. Smith.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school community. Together, we are building a bright future for all our students.

Chromebook Week
We kindly request your assistance in ensuring the success of Chromebook Week and Device Check. We have provided you with information on what Chromebook Week and Device Check entail in our weekly newsletter. Normally, your child would bring their fully charged Chromebook to school every day, but it is crucial that they do so next week January 27th through 31st. During this time, students will be shutting down their Chromebooks, restarting them, and logging in to ensure that all necessary updates are installed and to verify the functionality of their devices. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Mental Wellness & Hidden in Plain Sight Night
Hidden In Plain Sight is an opportunity for parents, teachers, and others who work with youth to experience and explore the environment of a teenager and learn to spot signs of possible substance use and risky behavior. The exhibit’s aim is to help parents and other adults see the environment with new eyes, know the warning signs that may be obvious once they are pointed out, and then help them have a conversation with the teen to stop dangerous behaviors.

Car Rider Guidelines
In an effort to ensure student safety, the following procedures are to be followed:
All drivers must refrain from cell phone usage. It is a school zone law.
We must keep the circle part of the pickup area clear for emergencies. Please do not pull into the circle until directed to do so.
All cars must pull all the way forward to the end of the drop off and pick-up zone.
We have limited parking, and it is reserved for our Truitt staff. Please do not park in these spaces.
Please do not drop off or pick-up by the bus ramp.
Please do not drop off or pick-up students on the street. Yorkpoint Dr. is not a drop off point.
As you exit the parking lot make sure you turn right ONLY.
Follow our staff members directions.
We share the car rider line with our Special Education buses, please be patient. They enter on the right side.
Line should only be on Hamstead Park. Not coming in from Addicks Satsuma.
Please be kind. Do not block the driveways and do not skip the line.
We appreciate your assistance with keeping our car riders safe!

A Parent's Right to Know
Title I is a federally funded program meant to provide opportunities for disadvantaged
children to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to help close the
achievement gap. As a parent of a student receiving Title 1 funds, federal law allows
parents to ask for information about the certification of your child's teacher and/or paraprofessional.
If you would like to receive information, you may contact Dr. Smith at 281-856-1100.
Are you a dad, stepdad, granddad, uncle, or older brother? If so, we would love for you to come and volunteer as a Truitt Alpha!! It's very similar to the Watch D.O.G Program and it provides positive male role models on campus!
Your presence provides:
