St James' Catholic High School
April 2024 Newsletter
MESSAGE FROM HEADTEACHER
I write as both Year 11 and 13 embark on their exams. I know you will all join me in wishing them well and keeping them in your thoughts and prayers. They have worked hard in preparation for these exams and continue to be supported by the dedicated staff here at St James’.
As a school our vision is to help every child reach their full potential and to live out our mission statement. These exams are the currency that will support them in their endeavors, and so I wish them the very best again.
Fullness of Life, the words that appear at the end of our mission statement, can only truly be achieved with a focus on the holistic development of your child. Some of those wider development opportunities can be seen here, in the pages of our newsletter. Please do enjoy the read and encourage your child to participate in the many enriching activities that are available to them here at St James’.
Good bless

One of our incredible PiXL winners Aaron with his maths teacher Mr Langtry. The top 3 pupils each week are rewarded for their hard work on the PiXL Maths App. Great work Aaron!
Ski Trip 2024
During the Easter break many of our Year 9 and 10 pupils traveled to Andorra.
They enjoyed picture-perfect conditions along the mountain range between France and Spain. Encamp is a small town and the third most populated parish of the six parishes of Andorra. It lies within the Grandvalira ski area which boosts slopes for all abilities. From Encamp the slopes are easily reached by Funicamp cable car. The Funicamp takes about 20 minutes from the bottom to the top, where our ski school meeting point was.
The pupils stayed at the Evenia Orsos, a lovely hotel situated in the heart of Encamp, just a few meters from the Grandvalira ski area.
Excited to be learning a new skill, our pupils had five hours of daily ski lessons with a fully qualified instructor. They had a fantastic time and threw themselves wholeheartedly into the skiing and time spent with their friends and teachers!

Our Journey Through Holy Week
Here are the pictures from our journey through Holy Week- our theme was putting ourselves in the story, here are some of the recreations of artwork that we made.
From Palm Sunday, through Spy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday to Good Friday. Pupils were asked to imagine what it would have been like to be there at these events, and what might they have seen, heard and felt.
Liturgical Assemblies
As part of our pupils putting themselves in the story of Easter, they read the Passion at our final liturgical assemblies of the Spring term. Pupils narrated the story and took the parts of Jesus, Peter, Pilate and everyone joined in as the crowd!
