I can't believe it's May and the last month of school. This school year has flown by! Our students have learned and grown a lot and we feel lucky to have been a part of it. Our 3rd-6th grade students are doing an amazing job on their ISAT assessments. We are proud of their hard work! You will receive their score reports and a document explaining how to read the report the end of this month.

In May, our K-3rd grade students will take their end of year Istation (reading) assessment and all students will take their end of year iReady (math) assessment. We are looking forward to celebrating each student's individual growth with them.

With May comes a lot of field trips and end of year activities. Please remember to check your child's backpack daily and read all communication from the school and your child's teacher.

In June, you will receive your student's final report card and a letter stating your child's assigned teacher for the 24-25 school year in the mail. In August, you can expect a welcome back newsletter from me with important information about the 24-25 school year.

Every Friday (except for the last day of school) will be late start in District 91. This gives our teachers time to collaborate and plan for students. The first bell will ring at 9:15 am and the dismissal bell rings at 2:25 pm.

Our last day of school for all students will be Friday, May 31. It is NOT a late start Friday, but will be an early release. We will start school at 8:15 am and we will release students at 12:55 pm. Lunch will be provided prior to dismissal and buses will run on this early release schedule. Our PTO has organized a fun Field Day for the last day of school and we can't wait to celebrate another successful year.

May is such a fun month to work in an elementary school! Our students worked so hard and showed GRIT on their ISAT’s. Now that testing is mostly behind us, we can move on to fun school wide activities. I love this time of year when we get to reflect on students’ accomplishments and learning.

In our lessons this month, we will focus our attention on emotional regulation. We will be making Grump Meters to assist us in managing our emotions. Feel free to learn more about the Grump Meter here: https://www.grumpmeter.com/about-grump-meter.

Once a month, all students will have the opportunity to learn more about music and art through a 30 minute Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) taught by a PTO volunteer. FAME is an art and music program designed to familiarize students with historically well-known artists, composers, and their works. The content is presented by focusing on specific art and music elements as parts of a composition and by providing a connection, be it life experiences or artistic similarities of featured artists.

Westside is a school wide Title 1 school. Wondering what that means? All students have the opportunity to receive Title 1 services such as interventions in subjects they may struggle with and/or enrichment in subjects they excel with. Check out this PowerPoint for more information:
