What It's All About
At McClure Health Science HS, we are proud to support our students in their college aspirations and to celebrate their achievements. Georgia Apply to College is an initiative that aims to help more students pursue higher education. During the week of November 13th, we have planned several activities to assist and encourage our seniors in applying to college. A list of activities will be coming soon. Below are a few ways you can support Georgia Apply to College Week at MHSHS.
Causes of Fall Allergies
As the leaves change colors and the air turns crisp, many of us eagerly anticipate the beauty of fall. However, for some, this season also brings the not-so-welcome arrival of fall allergies. Don’t let sneezing and sniffles put a damper on your autumnal enthusiasm. In this blog of the week from 45 Urgent Care in Jackson, TN we’ll explore the causes, symptoms, and when to seek medical attention.
Fall allergies are primarily triggered by airborne allergens that are prevalent during this season. The most common culprits include:
- **Ragweed Pollen:** Ragweed is a notorious fall allergen that releases pollen into the air, leading to sneezing, itchy eyes, and a runny nose.
- **Mold Spores:** Fallen leaves and damp outdoor conditions provide an ideal breeding ground for mold. Mold spores become airborne and can cause allergic reactions when inhaled.
- **Dust Mites:** Spending more time indoors with closed windows and heating systems can increase exposure to dust mites, a common indoor allergen.
- **Pet Allergens:** If you have furry friends, they might bring outdoor allergens like pollen inside on their fur.
Symptoms of Fall Allergies
Recognizing the symptoms of fall allergies can help you manage them effectively. Common signs include:
- Sneezing
- Runny or Stuffy Nose
- Itchy, Watery Eyes
- Coughing and Throat Irritation
- Fatigue
- Skin Irritations
When to Seek Medical Attention
While most fall allergies can be managed with over-the-counter antihistamines or nasal corticosteroids, there are situations when seeking urgent care is necessary:
- **Severe Symptoms:** If your symptoms are severe, persistent, or rapidly worsening, it’s essential to seek medical attention promptly.
- **Asthma Flare-ups:** Individuals with asthma are more susceptible to allergy-triggered asthma attacks during the fall. If you experience chest tightness, wheezing, or shortness of breath, visit urgent care immediately.
- **Fever or Infection:** Allergies can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. If you develop a fever or signs of infection like green or yellow mucus, see a healthcare provider.
- **Lack of Improvement:** If over-the-counter treatments don’t provide relief or if your symptoms persist for more than a week, it’s time to consult a healthcare professional.
- **New or Unusual Symptoms:** Sometimes, allergies can lead to complications like sinus infections or ear infections. If you experience new or unusual symptoms, consult a healthcare provider.
Fall allergies need not prevent you from enjoying the wonders of the season. Understanding the causes and recognizing the symptoms can help you manage your allergies effectively. Most people can find relief with over-the-counter remedies, but if your symptoms are severe or persist, don’t hesitate to seek the care you need. 45 Urgent Care is here for you with urgent relief! Open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 8pm, no appointment needed. With proper management, you can embrace the fall season with ease and fully enjoy its beauty.

FAFSA Information
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is the gateway to getting federal student loans, scholarships, grants, and work-study for school, but there can be so much confusion around it.
The FAFSA® used to be a super long application that took a lot of time and effort—that’s now a thing of the past. The FAFSA® for the 2024-2025 academic year is the new and improved version. Check out the link below to see all the changes!
Tips on how to avoid these common FAFSA® mistakes
Every year, families postpone filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Some skip it entirely because they think it’s a waste of time, the application is too long, or it's only a fast track to federal student loans. However, the FAFSA® package can also include college scholarships, work-study, and grants. Not filling it out—the most costly FAFSA® mistake—can result in losing money that could have helped you pay for college. Don’t be that student, and make sure you avoid these common FAFSA® mistakes by checking out the article link below!
