Friday Family Message
October 17th, 2022
Hello Families!
As we head into the final week before Winter Break, the energy and excitement within the walls of our schools are evident! Classrooms and schools celebrate winter holidays with artwork, gestures of giving, and more. We are grateful that schools are actively utilizing volunteers again, and students can celebrate and convene in a more “normal” fashion. I have been struck by our student’s interest in serving others. It is important and impressive that our young people strongly desire to think outside themselves. Our amazing staff has worked hard to support our students in acts of kindness and service.
Investigation finalized
We appreciate your patience and understanding as a thorough investigation was conducted into allegations of racism at a recent football game. Investigations take time and often take longer than wished or expected. Please find a summary of the investigations and the district’s response HERE.
New elementary school boundaries
Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) will host two community forums to gather public feedback and input on their work so far on recommending adjustments to our current elementary school boundaries.
The first community forum will be 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Utsalady Elementary. The second public meeting will be 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Twin City Elementary.
We expect the new boundaries to be in place at the start of the 23-24 school year. Please click HERE to learn more about the CFAC. You can also review our Facility Master Plan and a recent demographic study we did to help us plan more effectively through the 2031 school year. Lastly, the webpage has an FAQ section to answer common questions from our community thus far.
Transitional Kindergarten program is coming soon
Stanwood-Camano School District is launching a free program in January aimed at helping children with special needs prepare for kindergarten.
The Inclusionary Transitional Kindergarten (ITK) program provides families with the opportunity to ensure their students begin their school careers ready for kindergarten. This program will provide an equitable start for students by offering a high-quality early learning experience before they enter the traditional kindergarten classroom.
Students are eligible for the program if they have not had prior access to early learning experiences, and/or have been identified, through a screening process, as being in need of additional preparation based on academic or social-emotional deficits, to be successful in kindergarten in the following year. We encourage all interested parents to apply.
