Monty's Moments: Monteith is Thankful for Mr. Stahl
Tigers,
Have you ever walked into Monteith and thought:
Wow this school is so clean and organized I wonder who is doing all this amazing work?!?!
If you haven't you should because it is not an easy job to keep a school of this size, with this many humans coming in and out of it each day clean. Think how hard it is to keep your own house clean.
Well, this job seems like a job for many people. Monteith has ONE man who does this day in and day out all by himself (he gets help here and there). Mr. Stahl is here early in the morning to open the building and do a clean up of the school in the morning, he works all day and many times is pulling a double to make sure everything is taken care of in the building. If there's events at night or on the weekends it's Mr. Stahl who is here for it. From the bottom of our hearts we all want to say thank you to Mr. Stahl for making Monteith a clean and happy place to learn and work!!!
(Side note TODAY is Mr. Stahl's Birthday)
Reminders:
We only have school this week Monday and Tuesday
As the weather continues to change please make sure that your child has an EXTRA SET of CLOTHES in their lockers! In michigan you never know if it's going to rain, snow, so it's important to have that extra set just in case.

4th Grade Parents/Guardians Please Read
I'm sending out the Monteith Middle School Options Survey: 2025/26 Monteith Middle School Preference Survey. As many of you know, Monteith Elementary School students attend Parcells and Brownell Middle Schools. The district knows this can be tricky for families due to carpools, friends, and several other things. As a district, we would like to survey the 4th-grade families from Monteith to see their concerns and help families find a solution before the incoming 5th-grade Parent night at the middle schools in January. Please complete the survey by December 6th, 2024, for your information to be included and reviewed. Anything after the 6th will not be reviewed for Middle School.
3rd & 4th Grade Magnet Program
If you have a current 2nd or 3rd grade student you may be interested in learning about our magnet program. The GPPSS offers a magnet program for 3rd and 4th-grade students. Please click here for more information and click on the parent nomination form to nominate your student if interested. Additional information is available on our district website, including a slideshow and an FAQ document. If you have any questions please email Pam Albrecht, Magnet Program Coordinator, at albrecp@gpschools.org.

Resources for Home and School
A few parents have also asked if there is something they can do at home to support their child's reading and math growth. In GPPSS we are lucky to have 3 online programs that you can access at home to support your child:
Lexia
RGR (K-4)
Freckle
All of these can be accessed through your child's Clever Login

Can I bring in birthday treats for my child’s birthday?
We celebrate birthdays at Monteith by giving each student a birthday book and bookmark during their birthday month.
Due to the large number of student allergies, we no longer can allow any type of birthday cakes, cupcakes or cookies in the elementary schools (except for teacher scheduled celebrations) . Please save the present celebrations for home parties. If students want to bring in a small goodie bag of non-edible items ( Ex: pop-its, pencils, etc.) that is allowed but not necessary. If you do send in something with your child it needs to be for the whole class not just a couple students.
Kindness matters at Monteith and Always!
Boomerang Winners
The Boomerang: What you give to the world you get back...So give KINDNESS
Our Boomerang Award winners this week: Ms. Alex (Lunch Supervisor) and Ms. Cavaliere (Title 1)
Ms. Alex: Ms. Alex is so flexible and patient with kids and puts them first! She brings so much joy to our building and she is so accepting of all students which makes her a major asset to our building. Her willingness to jump in anywhere to help with anything helps more than she will ever know. We are so glad you are here at Monteith!
Ms. Cavaliere: We knew she was an incredible 3rd grade teacher and that her knowledge of interventions and progress monitoring student growth was off the charts. She's put a ton of work into the Title 1 program for the upper grades! She's keeping us focused on improving student knowledge and is flexible and kind with students.

Music News
In Kindergarten music, we learn to keep a steady beat and use a singing voice. We listen and move our bodies to music to demonstrate fast/slow and loud/quiet. Students also learn to play different classroom instruments such as drums, boomwhackers, rhythm sticks, and maracas.
Art News
1st grade students learned how each snowflake is unique by reading the book “Snowflake Bentley” by Jaqueline Briggs Martin. Students created their own unique snowflakes using white paint and printing old bottle caps, Popsicle sticks, and other found objects onto black paper. Students focused on making their snowflakes symmetrical and unique as no two snowflakes are alike.
