LSHS Robotics team recently participated in the exhilarating robotics competitions held in Carrollton and Albany, GA. Led by their instructor, Dr. Lindsey Napier, along with their passion for innovation and technology, our students showcased their hard work, dedication, and teamwork throughout these competitions.
At the heart of their journey was the creation of their extraordinary robot, Leobot XII, affectionately referred to as Scrappy, Jr. The Robotics team members poured their creativity, engineering skills, and coding expertise into designing, building, and programming this remarkable robot. From concept to creation, they worked collaboratively, facing challenges head-on and embracing the spirit of innovation.
While the team did not secure a top placement in the competitions, their journey was filled with invaluable lessons and experiences. The students learned the significance of perseverance, critical thinking, and effective communication as they navigated the complexities of robotics design and competition. A strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork will definitely serve them well in their future education and career endeavors. We are immensely proud of our Robotics team and their accomplishments. Their passion and dedication has not gone unnoticed! Congrats to our Robotics team!
Celebrating Student Creativity: Art Students Decorate Easter Eggs for the GaDOE
We are excited to share the recent artistic endeavor undertaken by our very own art students under the guidance of Mr. James Couch, art teacher. Superintendent Richard Woods of the Georgia Department of Education presented schools with a unique opportunity to showcase student talent and emphasize the importance of fine arts education. The challenge? Decorate Easter eggs to be displayed in the offices of the Georgia Department of Education.
Eager to promote the creativity and skills of our students, Mr. Couch enthusiastically accepted the challenge. Under his guidance, our art students poured their hearts and souls into transforming plain Easter eggs into stunning 3-D works of art. Each student brought their unique style and creativity to the project, resulting in a diverse collection of beautifully decorated eggs.
The submission of our students' artwork is shown below by Superintendent Woods and Director of Policy, Susan Walker. We hope they were impressed by the talent and dedication showcased in each egg. We are incredibly proud of our students for rising to the challenge and producing such Egg-ceptional artwork! Thank you Superintendent Woods for recognizing the importance of fostering artistic expression and creativity in education.

SCHOOL NUTRITION: BREAKFAST & LUNCH
Dear Parents:
We want to remind you of the importance of completing the free and reduced meal application for your child to qualify for free and reduced meals at school. Until the application is approved, breakfast will cost $1.25 and lunch will cost $2.50 daily.
Please note, meals are not free, and parents will be required to send money for their child's meals until the application is processed and approved. We encourage you to take advantage of the option to complete the application and to load money to your child's meal account through schoolcafe.com or send cash for meals. We have many students charging lunch; however, they are not repaying. It is crucial that we work together to address this issue promptly by completing the free and reduced meal application as soon as possible, and if approved, you will be notified.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your cooperation in ensuring that all students have access to nutritious meals during the school day.

Clear Bag Policy at All Athletic Events
DCSS has a clear bag policy at all sporting events. The policy is similar to policies in place at college and professional stadiums and coliseums.
"The clear bag policy will help us keep dangerous or illegal items, including weapons, out of our venues," said Superintendent Trent North. "By allowing only clear bags, we can monitor what's coming into our stadiums and gyms and keep everyone safer with only minor inconvenience to those in attendance."
The following types of bags will be permitted inside DCSS sporting events:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12"x6"x12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
- Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5"x6.5"
No outside food or drink will be permitted. Bottled water will be acceptable under special circumstances. Thank you in advance for adhering to this policy.
