Monk Fryston Newsletter 20.9.24
The school target for next week is;
Attendance.
Our school attendance last week was 97.6%. This is great because it meets our target for the year, which is 97% - please keep it up!
Collective Worship Value.
Our collective worship value next week is peace. Please take time to talk to your child about this.
Parking Issues.
Unfortunately, we have received complaints from residents of Chestnut Green that parents are parking inconsiderately. Please remember to park legally and ensure that there is sufficient space for other road users to pass safely.
SeptemberFest - Thank you.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help at the SeptemberFest last weekend, and to everyone who attended the event. It was a brilliant weekend, and will hopefully have raised a lot of funds for our school.
PTA AGM 24.9.24
Don’t forget that the PTA AGM will take place at 7.30pm on 24th September, in the Year 6 classroom. Everyone is welcome to come along and find out what the PTA are planning for the coming year.
Can you help?
As part of our development of the outdoors, we are planting trees and hedges after half term and would like your support! We need people to cut turf to prepare for the new trees during the week of 4th November, and then volunteers to help children plant the trees in the following week (11th November). Times can be flexible during the school day. If you are able to help, please email the school office.
PTA 100 Club
Don’t forget that numbers for the PTA 100 Club can be purchased through ParentPay.
Consider becoming a STAR Governor?
Do you have a passion for education and a desire to see local schools thrive? If so, please consider becoming a STAR governor. There is a small number of vacancies for governors across the Trust. Vacancies are listed at https://web.starmat.uk/governance/governor-information-and-vacancies/
Keep children safe using online devices.
We know that a lot of our children use devices online at home, and it is really important to keep them safe when doing so. We teach them safe practices at school, and support at home can be found on our website. O2 also have useful resources for parents at https://www.o2.co.uk/help/online-safety
Shop at Asda? Raise funds for school!
Parentkind – the charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative – all you have to do is, opt in through the Asda Rewards app, choose our primary school and shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com, between 2nd September and 30th November 2024
Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to our Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts in, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.
The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage
Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most.
Cool Milk - register your child to have a glass of cold milk each day.
Online Suggestions Box.
We have set up an online suggestions box. Scan this QR code if you want to give feedback on our school (non-urgent enquiries only please). The QR code is also on the parent noticeboards in school. Alternatively click the link below for direct access to the form.
School Meals - please pre-order on ParentPay.
Please help save time in the classroom by pre-ordering your child's school meals on ParentPay. This will give you chance to discuss the options with them and encourage them to try different things. We have a great menu this term. Thank you for you support.

We welcome girls aged 10-14 and meet weekly during term time. Our trained and DBS checked local volunteers ensure a safe, fun, and educational environment.
Key Information:
- Meeting Time: Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
- Location: South Milford
- Subscription Fee: Great value at only £30 per term
Our upcoming Autumn term is packed with exciting activities, including:
- Photography badge work
- Outdoor adventures like our "Chippy Hike"
- Creative arts projects such as "Pass the Paintbrush"
- Mental health awareness activities for World Mental Health Day
- Wellness evening featuring Tai Chi and Pilates
- Remembrance Day activities
- Festive gingerbread making
- A theatre trip to see "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" at Leeds Playhouse
- Christmas crafts and a special party
These diverse activities showcase our commitment to developing well-rounded individuals while having fun!
If Thursdays don't work for some families, please note that there are other local Guide groups that meet on different days of the week. We'd be happy to provide information about these alternatives if anyone is interested.
Please would you be willing to share information about 1st South Milford Guides with your students and their families? I've attached a poster if you might be so kind as to perhaps print it and display it somewhere within the school, or maybe send it to parents if you have a newsletter? I'd be happy to give a short presentation at the school all about Guides.
Pre - covid we had around 25 - 30 guides, but we have seen a huge drop off since lockdown and our numbers are now down to only a small handful of girls c4 - 5 which really poses a risk to our future in the village. I'd really like to keep the unit going so that local girls have somewhere to build their confidence and make friends, but we need some help in recruiting new girls - please can you help us?
For more information or to arrange a visit, please contact by email at 1stsouthmilfordguides@gmail.com or call me on 07970 033 412.
Thank you for your time
Best regards,
Lucy Rider - Leader In Charge

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.
If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:
Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guarantee element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)
Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.
You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.
Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
