Mayor Canose's Update
March 10, 2025
We did it!
Many thanks to the members of my Mayor's Wellness Campaign Committee, the Bernardsville Recreation Department, the Bernardsville Library, and Community in Crisis for helping our community advance from a Healthy Town to Watch in 2023 to a Healthy Town in 2024!
Don't Miss the 5th Annual Shamrock Shuffle!
This is a fun family event and is part of what makes Bernardsville a Healthy Town! You can sign up for a USATF Grand Prix 5K race, a two-mile scenic walk, or a free kids fun run. There will be Irish dancing, bagpipes, face painting and some great prizes. You can register here and get more information for the March 22 event.
Did You Know?
That our firefighters and first aid squad are all volunteers?
These men and women go through intensive training and commit endless hours to serving our community. They also participate in many community activities such as the annual holiday tree lighting and parade. Follow them on Facebook and you'll see just how often they are called out to handle emergencies. They are always looking for new members and support from our community. By making a donation, you are investing in the safety of our community. Your donations cover expenses for protective gear, updated equipment, first aid supplies, etc. You can donate here.
Round Four Affordable Housing Presentation
At the February 24th Council meeting, the Borough Planner, Jessica Caldwell, explained the requirements and deadlines for Round Four of our affordable housing obligation. The presentation is on the Borough website. You can also watch the recording of the meeting here. The Council accepted its obligation of 113 affordable units. According to Ms. Caldwell, this number may be reduced by various credits, bonuses and our vacant land adjustment. The 159 municipalities that contested their numbers are now being sued by the New Jersey Builders Association. You can read about it here.
Office on Aging Needs Your Help
For residents who are 60+, caregivers and people living with disabilities, the Somerset County Office on Aging is asking for you to help them help you. By filling out this survey, they will be better able to provide the kinds of programs and services that you need and want. I just completed the survey and it only took me 5 minutes.
