Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 6 | 6 March 2024
Ondine Komnick | Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful long three-day weekend break. Everyone seems to be well rested and ready for the last half of the first term.
Nature Playground
Our nature playground has been inspected by PlayCheck and they were incredibly impressed with the standard of work and with a few minor modifications, the playground meets the requirements of the Standards and should soon be ready to be formally opened.
Mr McPhail needs to be formally acknowledged and recognised for leading the development of this nature play project. His creative genius and skilled workmanship will bring years of joy and pleasure to many students. Mr McPhail and Mr Zoontjens who regularly assisted Mr McPhail to realise his playground vision, can be incredibly proud of their work and what they have achieved. We are incredibly grateful to them both for sharing their God-given talents with our school community.
Naplan
Next week our Year 3 and 5 students will be sitting NAPLAN testing from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 18 March. All assessments will be completed online, except for the Year 3 Writing assessment, which will be completed on paper. NAPLAN assessments are one of the ways in which our school determines the achievement of its students and the effectiveness of our teaching programs. Teachers have been working with students to ensure they are familiar with the test format, but it is imperative not to overstate the importance of the NAPLAN tests or to build up anxiety in the children. Our message to all our Year 3 and 5 students will be to ‘try your best’.
God bless you all.
