Wrangler Weekly
Week of November 10, 2024
Message from Ms. Bratton, principal
Happy Friday --
We had a fabulous Veterans Day assembly today. Our Wranglers did a great job of honoring veterans with their singing, their dancing, their musical performance, their speaking, and their undivided attention. It was amazing. A special thank you to our guest speaker and SBMS parent, Chief Daniel Hansen. He gave a wonderful speech for the kids about the opportunities they have -- they "get to" rather than "have to"... they get to go to school. They get to go to practice. They get to clean their room. We appreciate the message here at SBMS. Also we need to thank Ms. Melissa Vinson, an SBMS parent, for her amazing bagpipe performance. This year's Veterans Day ceremony was one of our best! Thank you to all AND our great PTA for sponsoring the refreshments.
We also want to offer a reminder that students have a 3 day weekend.
Please read the information below regarding a special informational night, compliments of our PTA. This event is open to parents from SBMS, RBES, and ASES to learn tips and tools regarding parenting in the 21st century. We hope to see you there.
Also this coming week, our students will have their second day of clubs on Wednesday, our CyberPatriots team, coached by Mr. Chapa, will compete on Thursday, and our exciting, yearly Career Day event will be on Friday! Big week at the Branch!
Finally, I'm asking again for your help. We have our Day of Awesomeness coming up on Friday, Nov. 22. We need parent volunteers (who have completed the district background check) to sign up and help us monitor the event. All students will attend with the exception of any student who has received two or more days of ISS starting Monday, October 28 or has days assigned in OSS at any point this semester. Grades will not effect a student's attendance for this event. Each grade level will enjoy two hours of fun in the sun on the football field to celebrate our campus community (compliments of our Pop Fundraiser). We hope to see you there.
Go Wranglers!
Mrs. Bratton

Keeping Kids Safe in a Digital World - Nov 13
Award-winning author, Mandy Majors from nextTalk, will be speaking to parents on November 13th at 6 pm here at SBMS. We highly encourage you to attend! This is an adult-only event with mature content. Please note – this is for parents with kids of all ages. If you have a preschooler, teenager or any age in-between, you need the relevant information shared by this organization. Even if your child doesn’t have a phone, their friend probably does or will. Anyone who is raising kids in today’s digital age will benefit from this content. Although we’ll focus on how to keep kids safe in a digital world, this event will encompass so much more!
Be prepared for real, raw and sometimes difficult-to-hear information. But, the hope of nextTalk is that you will leave empowered, encouraged and supported. Mandy will present a solution to this big scary problem and provide you with practical advice to implement in your home right now to keep your kids safe.
As this is an adult only presentation, if you are in need of childcare, please complete this form.
Career Day - Nov 15
We are excited to share the many different career opportunities our students could have in the future. There is a future for every student, and we want to help them realize it.
Would you like to share your career with our students? Do you know someone who would love to share their career with students?
Please complete this form (SBMS Career Day))or contact Vera Borg at vera.borg@comalisd.org if you would like to help make an impact on the futures of SBMS students.
Volunteers needed - Nov 22
SBMS Day of Awesomeness is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 22.
Our campus fundraiser, Pop4Kids, will be providing this celebration.
Here's an overview of the day: Each grade level will have approximately 2 hours with...Next Level as we celebrate with a Day of Awesomeness - an event full of laughter, dance, and unforgettable memories. Inspired by TV shows like Wipeout and American Ninja Warrior. Click here for a sneak peek!
But we need your help -- can you spend 2 hours outside on the football field helping ensure all students have fun, and enjoy watching your kiddo and their friends enjoy the sunshine and celebrate awesomeness? Volunteers will be monitoring the entrance and exits to the blow up obstacle courses.
We need your help to make this day GREAT -- if you would like to come and help, the sign up is here.:
7th grade: 8:30-10:30
6th grade: 11:00-1:00
8th grade: 1:30-3:30
Also, every volunteer will need to complete the background check for CISD -- this must be done each school year.
I also want to make you aware that we have set the expectation with students for acceptable behavior if they are to be included in the Day of Awesomeness. We want to ensure that this day is truly a celebration for our students.
UIL Academics
UIL Academics is in full swing, and we had a great turnout at the recent interest meeting. If your child missed it or you want to know more, please check out this site or reach out to Coach T. (david.tomasson@comalisd.org).
Heater & Blanket Drive through Nov 30
As many local families are left without proper heating and blankets this winter, SBMS is doing our part to bring some warmth into the homes of our neighbors this holiday season. Drop off blankets, heaters or fleece material in the box by the counselors corner now through the end of November.
A Message from Nurse Keith
We are starting to see some illnesses on campus. Please be aware of Comal ISD policy regarding fever, which requires that all students and staff be free of fever (100 degrees and above) for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications, before returning to school. Thank you for working with us to help prevent the spread of illnesses at school.
